Collagen drink?...hard to swallow!

So my question is: How can fish derived collagen survive the hydrochloric stomach acid and be processed by the body to boost facial collagen in a person? (My biologist mother is turning in her grave!) Or will you just achieve really expensive wee?

Secondly, check out the 5* reviews under the QVC item...they are all so similar to me; the "voice" they're written in sounds as though they've been written by the same person to me.

Thirdly, will the presenters be using their Quacker Factory duck call gizmo during the presentation of this item? I think they should!

Finally, does anyone know where I can buy Snake Oil...price no object!

Also, this is only a 10 day course, but according to the website info, it will take 3 weeks to stimulate skin hydration, 6 weeks for skin smoothness & 9 weeks to see skin firmness.

They've been selling collagen capsules on IW for years .You have to take them for months regularly for the full effect .Ive always been sceptical. I don't see how they can work once it gets into the stomach .Apparanty it works from inside to firm the skin and replace lost collagen. It would be interesting to know if any posters have used them or any of the collagen products and to what effect.

So I've decided to lob in a few choice quotes about collagen from various blog posts she's written...

Collagen drinks/tablets/supplements/facial sprays
I know some of you love them and swear by them and if so, crack on – whatever rocks your boat, it's your money - but they won’t fix what nature has lost through age.
Eat well. Sleep well. Avoid sugar if at all possible. Don’t smoke.
And if you’re that desperate, invest in something injected, they work better than any drink.
And don't get me started on the sprays.

Vitamin A
Vitamin A is the only other ingredient along with SPF that the FDA will legally let you claim to be anti-ageing in the USA. Vitamin A reverses the signs of ageing. Rebuilds collagen, repairs sun damage and is an all round good egg. There are varying degrees of vitamin A - if you have previously used a product with vitamin A in it and reacted badly - it may just be that you haven't found the right one for you yet.
Glycolic/Lactic/Salicylic Acids
Acids used in the right way can be beneficial to the skin - when applied as topical exfoliants they resurface the epidermis allowing better product penetration and in the case of some well formulated AHA's - help rebuild collagen.
Glycolic and Lactic are better for a dryer skin - Salicylic for oily/combination. Don't go too strong straight away and don't go mad. Less is sometimes more.

That, by the way, is still my advice. Try and buy 2, preferably 3 acid products. A strong one for evenings, a lighter one for days and one more to mix it up. Acid toners are literally like taking your face to the gym. Different strengths and different acids do different things.

Lactic (AHA) - resurfacing, great for dehydrated and dry skin.
Glycolic (AHA) - stimulating for better collagen production, resurfacing.
Malic (AHA) - resurfacing, good for boosting collagen production
Salicylic (BHA) - best for spots/acne. Surprisingly gentle.
PHA's (Poly hydroxy acids) - best for those in need of hydration and deep penetration of product afterwards.



Before I am asked: Liquid Gold by Alpha-H is not a toner - it will be in nighttime treatment lists!

As far as I can see each of the six reviewers has only reviewed that product which makes me suspicious that the reviews aren't genuine.

Could they be part of the legendary customer panel? Or alternatively perhaps there have been complimentary samples given to some customers to provide reviews. I won't speculate as to how they might have been selected, if that is the case...

The danger with quackery like this is buyers who invest say £300+ on auto delivery and take the drinks will feel foolish if they see no improvement, cancel the auto-delivery but never speak about it through embarrassment (like the elderly falling for telephone and postal scams but don't discuss it with their family). A few will tell their friends or post on social media about how they believed the hype but either returned it or post how foolish they feel about it. A third group will think it must be good, because they've invested time and money - like the Emperor's New Clothes. Whatever happens the brand has shifted quite a few units.
