Does anyone know what the tsv is for 01/03/2012? I am in the market for a premium quality hairdryer/straighteners.

It's probably to do with hair but more along the lines of removing it which seems to be QVC's obsession. If it wasn't for their attention to this problem I'd be tucking my nasal hair into my popsocks by now......:smirk:

I thought it was along the lines of fitness - but couldn't tell you what or how - or even if I'm 100% correct!

I thought they were flashing an ad for a up-coming keep fit thingamy. Or I'm hallucinating again!

Well, after watching last night's Horizon: The Truth About Exercise I won't be buying another piece of keep fit equipment and I'm sure I won't be alone!

missed that. is exercise bad for us now? :wonder:

It was a very interesting programme. According to the experiments carried out at the time (and I'm no expert!) it seems that three minutes a week of good intensive exercise gives all the health benefits we need so perhaps it isn't necessary to spend hours in the gym. Sitting on our bottoms is a definite "no-no" so it would be better to stand while you're having your breakfast and walk about during business discussions, etc. I found it fascinating especially in view of the fact that I walk Maise (avatar) every day and do not class myself as a 'couch potato' so perhaps this "specialised" exercise is a total waste of money.

i am rather tempted actually. it is very similar to the bodyvive lesson that i take twice a week. the ball is the best bit of kit around imo, you tone your arms and shoulders without even noticing it and, even better, no muscle ache lol. we do about 15 to 20 minutes with the ball but we do hold it differently which makes the difference (hold with palms and fingers off the ball)

i have taped the horizon prog. i mentioned it at the gym the other day and everyone scoffed lol

I wonder how many people who buy this TSV will still be using it after a week. The ball might come in handy for the kids to kick around the garden but you can get a football for a lot less than £43.

I watched this programme as well BL.....I was thinking of re-newing my gym membership until I watched this programme! It just goes to show you that moving around more and sitting less is all that the body requires :clapping:

cleaning you house and gardening and walking to the shops etc are all good excersize ino. i liked the gym but got bored after 3 years. glad that this prgramme has put keeping fit into perspective. my brother had a heart attack at 45 he goes to the gym 4 times a week and has a six pack to die for ... literally.

i suspect diet and eating healthily is more important in the long run.

Since I stopped smoking on 2nd January, I have been doing my 2 and a half miles power walking each morning. I was thinking I had better increase that amount soon, but after reading the above I don't feel under pressure to walk for 5 miles or more every day. Yipee!! Thanks for the info Busy, you have made my day! :mysmilie_378:

@itchy firstly very well done for stopping smoking. i stopped over 20 years ago and am still delighted about it. if i was you i would keep up the walking though perhaps reduce it as 5 miles is unnecessary but you do need additional exercise to mitigate the weight piling on. eventually your body will sort out its metabolism.

True. The walking is good, but as my weight goes to my stomach, not anywhere else, I have been told that something like pilates would be beneficial. We have classes in our local village hall, so I might start that. I had to wait a couple of months as my chest was so bad, I couldn't do much exercise until my lungs cleared. They have now.

I'd thoroughly recommend Pilates in a class because it's the best way to ensure you're doing the exercises safely and effectively. I wouldn't recommend doing DVDs like the TSV without someone who can see that your posture is correct. Even in front of a mirror it's difficult to ensure that you're perfectly aligned.

Itchy well done for becoming a non-smoker.

Thanks Jude. If there is one thing I am definite about, it is that i would never buy DVDs or exercise equipment to use at home. I know for a fact that I would never use them. I was tempted by the Zumba a couple of times, but had to be realistic. It would be a waste of money. We also have Zumba in the Village, but the instructor told me that pilates would be better, being an apple shape (Cooking Apple!!).

congrat on stopping smoking! i piled a shed load of weight on when i stopped a couple of years ago.
