The trouble is, none of these new start-ups offer anything new. And I suppose the reason why not is they think the core audience doesn’t want any change. Viewers taking comfort from the same old faces and the same old routines. That’s what makes it all so relatively short term. Duplicating the same repetition to the elderly core audience. If shopping television is going to survive beyond another 15 to 20 years, somebody needs to start a shopping channel that is going to appeal to a younger audience. People perhaps in their 30s and 40s who have another 30 or 40 years shopping in them. Not people in their 60s 70s and 80s who have maybe 10 or 15 years buying in general. That said, what could they possibly do? Younger people don’t want to watch one item being presented for half an hour or longer. It would bore most of them witless. How does shopping television replicate the culture of an Amazon for example? The answer is it can’t. And that’s why in 20 or so years time, shopping television will be the subject of one of those appalling talking unknown heads C5 type nostalgia shows -‘humorously’ looking back at how things used to be..

It is doable if you break down what online shopping is. What younger people use (apps). People are searching for products and look for reviews if you research what content that demographic are watching it is lots of people filming in their bedrooms telling us what wonderful side hustle they are running or a testimonial of the product with demos. If you make the app easy to use there's no reason why you can't have a hybrid of social media influencers and shopping TV. It's all about how that is achieved, that's the secret sauce we're missing

Selly telly presenters are influencers

Presenters on selly telly are basically influencers, trying to convince the viewer that there may be a friend or family member who desperately needs the product.

There are influencers and then there are influencers, nobody under the age of 40, Is going to be interested in Sally Jacks clothing

I know little about women’s clothes. Least, that’s what I tell my social worker…But even I can see those awful clothes they sell or not sell on Ideal World are solely intended for a certain sort, and that ain’t social climbing youngsters. Again…like setting up a closing down sale in the cemetery. These shopping channels need decent apps and websites and products to appeal to the younger buyers to get involved, with the ‘TV part’ just another option to click in and click out of as part of them.

Shopping TV is a case of managed decline. You won't find anyone under 50 watching unless they catch a presentation at their parent's house. Remember those mail order catalogues which came with the Sunday papers and were full of gadgets for older folk? They have all but disappeared and Shopping telly will go the same way within the next decade.

It won't survive as you've touched on. Experts don't think traditional linear telly has a longer term future, so I wouldn't hold out much hope for selly telly.

His cringeworthy soliloquy is beyond embarrassing. He is talking the biggest load of bollocks ever…and there’s NOTHING humorous or clever about it. I’d like to take those cheap, tacky bells and shove them up his Machu Pichu 🤬
The thing is, although it would still be a total cringe-fest, his spiel would make more sense if the products merited it.

However, they don't ...

Expert gardener and countryman Peter Simon predicts a heat wave within days.

He is talking of weeds and moss going mad and urges us to panic buy his patio cleaner, soon to be limited stock.

After then surely it will be time to wheel out the tower fans so we don't melt in our own homes.

It's the Day of the Triffids and the Day the Earth caught fire rolled into one.

We have been warned...
