<img src="http://www.shoppingtelly.com/images/gemstv/coated_logo.jpg" border="0" hspace="4" vspace="3" align="right" />Over the past few weeks concerns have been raised on our forum regarding Coloured Diamonds that customers had purchased from GemsTV.<br /><br />ShoppingTelly.com asked Tony Hiller, Group Cheif Exective of GemsTV if the company had contacted all customers that had been effected? <br /><br />GemsTV have tonight issued the following statement:<br /><br /><em>"Since discovering that a small proportion of our coloured diamonds were coated, we have been offering full refunds to customers who purchased these products. Many customers have actually decided to keep their coated diamonds once they have learnt what the coating process entails, the benefits it brings and how common the practice actually is. We have also happily investigated treatments on a variety of other gemstones for our customers.<br /><br />We have added the word ‘coated’ to the descriptions of our coated diamonds which are clearly displayed on our website and during TV games. In fact, our coated diamonds have continued to sell well, which goes to show that there is demand for these products as the fully natural variants are incredibly rare and expensive.<br /><br />All possible enhancements and treatments are clearly described in our Guide to Gems and Jewellery which is sent to all customers with their first order. This information can also be found in the Gemopedia section of our website.<br /><br />We encourage any customers who have concerns about their jewellery to contact us so that we can investigate the matter in a prompt and friendly manner."

GemsTV should work for the government they put so much spin on things.

So unless you contact them you will never know you have purchased coated diamonds and not the real thing.

I must say, I was wondering about that... They say "we have been offering full refunds to customers who purchased these products".

Does that mean they have been actively contacting customers - they don't say so - or waiting for customers to contact them? Graham, perhaps you could ask them that specific question?

There is another way of looking at this .......... if somebody has purchased one of the coated pink diamonds pieces, they are most likely customers of GemsTV. It is pretty difficult to ignore the pieces and the enhancements now and it's absolutely clear on those items.

It would be fair to assume that the majority (not all) customers would now be aware. Of course there will always be some who won't know (or care) and in all honesty, most people don't even understand what coated diamonds, filled rubies, doublet opals are in any case so it doesn't bother many people.

If somebody is a gemstone junkie it is highly likely that they will know and will frequent one forum or another. It's not like there hasn't been enough press on this issue.

To be honest, this just seems to be being used as a whipping stick for GemsTV and considering the way they have dealt with the majority of people - who have had refunds above and beyond the coated pink diamonds - I wonder how long it's going to be before it's laid to rest? All the customers on here have said they're happy with the outcome.

Just my opinion.

Don't think it can be laid to rest till they write to EACH and EVERY customer that has ever purchased a coated diamond, it should be GemsTV who are proactive in this, GemsTV are the company that made the error and not the customer.

I had a phonecall from Andrew RE; my fading Tanzanite this morning they had sent it to be tested and it was not coated then they sent it away for cleaning and Andrew says it is sparkly but must admit it hasnt changed it back to a AAAA and that yes he does agree that it is not the right colour for this so has offered a full refund or a replacement as i told him becuase of the rise in gold prices now i wont be able to afford another so would rather have a replacement which has been agreed now just have to wait for the new stock to come in to see if there is any i want but well done Andrew for taking all this time

Tequila, if you don't mind me pointing out, please make sure you get a replacement equivalent to the price you paid WHEN you paid it. If they replace at today's prices, you may not come out of this very well.

I do give Gems brownie points for acknowledgement that the ring is not right. xxxxx

Thanks for advice Argey and of cause i dont mind you pointing it out that what i like about this site what with you and meesh and a few other who neeeds experts LOL i have already told him i want the same if not bigger i told him that at todays prices i cant afford another one anyway its not my fault the Tanzy faded i treated as it should so why should i be out of pocket just cause the price of golds gone up if it hadnt have faded i would still have that one. but i will make sure again thanks

Really pleased you got it sorted, tequila.
Hope you don't have to wait too long for a lovely replacement.

This the question I asked:

"Would you be able to confirm if GemsTV are sending letters to all customers who purchased coated diamonds without them having to contact you."

The statement at the top was the reply.

Whilst I agree that Gems appear to have treated fairly all customer who have contacted them I do still feel that this has not been done out of the goodness of their hearts but because the treatments were not disclosed correctly at time of purchase and this could have left them open to substantial legal action not to mention action for mis-selling by the ASA.

I agree that they are now listing "coated" on their website and on the graphics when selling these pieces however I am dismayed that the treatment is not explained and in fact in many cases it's not mentioned at all. While we know to steer clear of coated diamonds, many people won't have a clue what they are. My view is that if Gems TV are happy to sell coated diamonds then they should be happy to explain the process when they are selling these instead of spending valuable time waffling total rubbish as the tendancy is these days! Additionally, surely as they are 'fake' coloured diamonds they should be priced accordingly?

I know, Graham - and they've dodged the question. I was just wondering if you might have another go at pinning them down?

Although I've been treated fairly and refunded with no quibble for the items I bought it only happened because of the pressure applied on this forum. I do agree that GEMS should have proactively written to everyone who purchased jewellery that was misrepresented because of the treatments non-disclosure, and I'm not talking just about coated diamonds. It would have been a very simple task to obtain the information from their database and I would hope they will still do this.

Klos I don't disagree BUT they are probably priced correctly actually. Also, how many of the other channels disclose treatments or even talk about them on air? GemsTV are being asked to do something that NONE of the other channels have done or are doing e.g.

Rocks and Co? Nothing in item description only a wishy washy treatments page and if you ask the question it's all "if" "but" "maybe". They can't tell you with a definitive answer whether your gem has been treated or not!

RocksTV? Nothing at all. Not even a treatments page. I wonder how many of their customers in the future will be unhappy when they find out what they've bought?

QVC? Not sure but doubt they disclose fully (if at all).

TJC? Some disclosure.

GemsTV are waaaaayyyyyyy ahead of the others and are being criticised now for doing so. They can't win!

Sorry...I know I am a bit of a Rocks TV Fan!!! :mysmilie_697:

They do talk about treatments and enhancements all the time. They openly admit to coating their topaz as well as dyeing their tourquoise to make it different colours etc. They are also questioned in chat about enhancements and always answer these questions. They have also categorically stated that they NEVER coat diamonds.

I agree, they need to get an enhancements page up - absolutely - but I haven't seen another channel that has talked so openly on air about the enhancements they have made to their 'stuff'.

.....I am gonna run away now, back to the Rocks TV section....

Are you now employed by GemsTV????

Graham that's truly pathetic. Let me ask you - are you employed by another channel to have a go at GemsTV? Equally ludicrous, right?

You obviously have a hate fest going with GemsTV at the moment. I have no idea why and don't care but you seem hell bent on a witch hunt. If you were a customer and hadn't had a refund I could fully understand. There doesn't seem to be many on here complaining and I'm just wondering why you feel the need to speak for people who don't appear to frequent the forum or that you know even exist!

It is my opinion that GemsTV should imform their customers that they were missold diamonds, I want them to act because it is unfair on each and every customer.

It is not a witch hunt this is trying to get GemsTV to do the right thing, something for some strange reason you don't want.
