Liz Earle Botanical Essence

This thread has reminded me of my ex sister in law. She wore the heavyweight "scents" as she called them, absolutely reeked. My brother has asthma and allergies but that didn't concern her. Anyway one Christmas I bought her the eau de toilette version of her favourite stuff. On Boxing Day she made my brother phone to ask where I'd got it from so he could return it as faulty - wifey said it had been watered down.

All this talk is bringing back stinky memories to me too!
Back in the 90's my dad bought my mum Poison - to make a change from
Chanel and rive gauche! - and after a year of just sitting on her dressing table for politeness she admitted she hated it and gave it to me... And me being in my teen goth/indie phase thought it was so sophisticated and cool but my god it stank!

I love good scent now though, all sorts, but do have to be careful because of migraines. A couple of relatively recent favourites are Elli Saab - Le Parfum and Chanel - Coco noir (I was given that, it's extortionate!). The only Liz Earle I've smelt was free sample of number one and I must say I loved it...

Oh and if you're on a budget two scents by Yardley (don't laugh!) Polaire for women and for men 'Citrus and Wood' are v pleasant!

Final fragrance tip:
Www.basenotes.net is a really useful directory of perfumes and scent news for info...
And any of the perfume books by Luca Turin worth a read, he's the man!

(Sorry got a bit carried away!)

in my teens i loved first by van cleef chanel 5 and christal. now i love amber scents and some florals.

PSSSS!!!! You should keep an eye on your local branch of TKMaxx, some L'Artisan Parfumeur fragrances have been spotted at £19.99 a bottle.

Drole de Rose a lovely soft sweet violet and roses perfume.

Nuit de Tuberose, spicy.

We get constantly on the perfume forums the same questions, which unfortunately make us laugh or just p*ss us off.

Men

What will make the girls drop their knickers?

I want something that will make the girls feel hot and horny towards me.

What fragrance should I wear on a date to make my girlfriend want to jump into bed with me?

What fragrances smells like sex?

Women

What fragrance will make a man ask me out?

What fragrance will makes a man fall in love with you?

I want to attract a man, what fragrance works for you?

The answer to all of the above is nothing. You are either a teenage boy who watches porn too much, or a female who watches Disney movies too much.

Trouble is the ask these questions on forums where people wear fragrance for the sheer pleasure and enjoyment. None of the questions above even enter our heads.

Sometimes you do get the I am going to a hospital/doctors appointment what should I wear? For me the answer is nothing, you are around sick people they don't want to smell your perfume. The dentist comes up too!!!! To that one whatever you want, you will be fighting the mouth rinse smell after the exam or treatment.

Donna's above post has really made me laugh.
As a young teenager, I doused myself in perfume, thinking my then boyfriend would like it. He calmly opened the car window and asked what perfume I had on, accompanied by a certain look :whew:

These days I suffer migraines, and like Akimbo mentioned, perfume can trigger them. The only ones that I can wear (sometimes) is Chanel Coco Noir, the one in the black bottle, which is a lovely soft gentle scent, and Mademoiselle, also very gentle.

A few weeks ago, I was on the bus going into town, a girl got on a few stops further along. She was wearing the most awful, overpowering perfume. I don't know what it was but it was truly nauseating, I couldn't bear it so had to get off the bus at the next stop, then waited for the next one.

I know this sounds a bit dramatic and over the top, but rather that than a migraine, and I do mean a migraine not just a headache.

IMO one of the nicest Amber scents is made by Yves Rocher. It`s a lesser known brand and I can`t say I like many of their perfumes but this one is lovely especially for Winter. It isn`t too heavy but has enought depth and character to be enjoyable wearing it. It`s now half price so I`ve stocked a couple of bottles just in case they discontinue it.

Well, I have spritzed one small spritz of this on my inner wrist and the cats won't come near me even a few hours later! I can constantly smell it. I need to scrub it off, pdq. It's way too spicy for me, but I think I'll chance it for my mum. I ordered two so I could smell it before 'gifting' it. The beauty of Q. Is does have its uses sometimes!

I agree TLL.
Wood & Citrus is quite pleasant.
Apparently it's very similar to Hermes Terre D'Hermes, except the Yardley has Lime opposed to Hermes which is Lemon.

I read that but sadly having not had the chance (money!) to smell the Hermes I shall have to take others' word for it! I bought the yardley for my dad for his birthday as a low risk option without smelling it first and he really likes it (and he's quite young in his tastes... 62 isn't quite Old Spice age yet ;)

If you ever want to push out the boat for your Mum MK then look at Galimard. They`re a small French perfumery in Grasse and they do a coffret of 6x15ml pure perfume extraits for 58 euros. You browse the ladies fragrances and choose your own for the coffret. Because they`re extraits they`re full strength, dab behind the ear and in the cleavage type of perfumes. Your Mum would probably love them. There`s a good description of each perfume in the ladies section.

Thanks for that, it sounds amazing. I may look for myself too :mysmilie_14:

I'm a difficult to please perfume wearer (or non-wearer). I really can't wear anything too flowery and most perfumes give me migraines. Liz Earle's No15 is perfect to me quite spicy and warm. I'm not a huge fan of Obsession but I sometimes wear the men's version (quite chocolaty), I like Opium but have never worn it (not sure why..so I might test it next time I'm in a department store).

I first tested it out in Boots and was very impressed. Bought it when it was on easy payments and would definitely purchase again.

I bought the recent Liz Earle tsv, although I tried the range once, didn't like it, but thought I'd give it another go. I have extremely aggravated eczema, and need something which will be okay with my skin. Well, I used the CP instead of the body lotion - my fault, couldn't read the writing on the tube - after the body wash. Then I used the body lotion. My skin became so inflamed - it had been quite calm recently - I was scratching like mad, causing me to bleed. I had to have another shower, to wash it all off. I am loathe to use the skincare on my face now, as it would be visible, if it reacted, unlike my body. Has anyone else had such an adverse reaction to this range? I think it will be going back, and I will stick to what I know.

I`ve never tried the perfume so can`t comment on it but I did buy the body wash and I threw it away. It made me itch like mad and I mean REALLY itch. I only used the skincare once, the CP, toner and moisturiser but it was right at the beginning of Liz Earle`s rise to fame. It was fine, I had no adverse effects but I didn`t buy it again. That was years ago and I believe the formula has changed since then so I`ve no idea if my skin would react badly to it these days. I wouldn`t risk it Louise.

Everyone is different with what can cause problems. I used to be able to use C&P but my skin just did not like it since the almond milk was removed.

For Bargin Hunters quite a bit of L'Artisan Parfumeur in TKMaxx at the moment. I got the gift set of La Chasse Aux Papillons for £24. They had the little gift set of four minis for £14, Musc, Tuberose, Chasse and Fig.

I had horrendous allergic reaction to the Orange Flower Body Wash!!

I had no allergic reaction at all to the Liz Earle products, just had to get used to the fragrances a little bit.;-)

Your experience sounds like a duplicate of mine, Vienna. I suppose this highlights the benefit of the 30 day mbg.
