Thanks, everyone, for your kind words about the fat emerald!
We have tried today to get better pix, with no real success , I'm afraid.... this is what we've come up with..... also a shot of another stone (not our photo) which is a good colour match.... and a shot tree emerald rings, one is another columbian emerald ring ( the one set with a diamond on each shoulder in yellow gold) the middle one is the RocksTV one, and a Siberian emrald ring in white gold (all 18ct) Also attached the original RocksTV pic.
Looking again at the pic Rocks had, it seems the pic is of the other ring ( they have 2)....one I have has much different stated stone size and in the Rocks pic, the top facets of the stone are quite different to mine and that ring looks to have a more square stone, as the stated 10x9 mm would suggest.
I'm so annoyed that we haven't managed to get a pic of this ring to show just how lovely it is, with a bright , yet strong colour and so much fire.
On closer examination, I do think that the amount and finish of the gold work in the setting and shank could be more/better for stones of this quality... by hey, ho, you can't have everything!!

What a glorious fat Emerald Mathilda. I was watching the auction when you bought it. It's a stonker alright and the colour was beautiful on screen. It's nigh on impossible to take a good photo of an Emerald. I must have taken 50 photos of one I bought recently and none of them did it any justice. Enjoy!

:17::17:
Gold weight is stated as 6.13gms though the shank still seems a bit light... would have liked it a bit thicker to balance top of ring. Gold finishing is okay, again it could be a little neater...but in the end, it's all about the bling!!

On closer examination, I do think that the amount and finish of the gold work in the setting and shank could be more/better for stones of this quality... by hey, ho, you can't have everything!!
I'm quoting myself here..... the shank of the ring is very light in comparison to other rings I have, which was a bit off-putting...I could tell that the shank would not wear very well and that a shank renewal would be called for sooner rather than later. ( expensive enough in 9KT let alone 18KT) I brought up those concerns with Steve B. who, after I showed him photos of the back of the Fat Emerald ring, alongside some other pieces, did seem to agree that it was not as substantial as it could have/ should have been.
Now though, after only having the ring about a month... and not wearing it very much at all ( spend more time with it sitting in its box in front of me, so I can watch the colours in the stone!) I was SO disappointed when I discovered on Saturday that the Emerald is loose in its setting! I can already see that the ring shank is beginning to change shape, too.
What a let down! I sent Steve an email the other day, to tell him what had happened. I haven't heard back from him yet, perhaps he is abroad again. It is just such a disappointment.... I know the emerald stone is lovely... but I didn't just buy a stone, I bought/was sold a RING and it's falling apart .....just not what I expect from an 18Kt ring of this purported calibre ......
I'm feeling really miserable, I can tell you. :17: :17:

So sorry to hear this Mathilda but I have mentioned a few times in the chat that they need to have more gold weight on their rings!! I have been unlucky too the last 2 days. My pink topaz ring lost its topaz and yesterday an amethyst ring lost an amethyst. CS have asked me to send them back as faulty which is fine but still frustrating!!

I think Steve is abroad. maybe e-mail John or Tony. Katherine is no holiday this week too!!

Hope you receive an answer soon xx

Crikey, BH, you're having problems too, in the same way, then? It's really not on, though, is it? Quality control is obviously seriously at fault when these things are happening. I have said before to the Rocks Team that it is all very well tohave great Customer Services, but I would be more impressed if a company gave great CS when it is needed but no-one KNEW that CS was so great because no-one ever needed CS!!
We all know that Rocks CS is good, and that they have super folks working for them, but how do we know that? Becuase so many of us are haing to call upon CS to rectify all sorts of problems, that's why! I'm waiting to find out if I can get a replacement for a pendant woth an enhancer clasp that was faulty... it wasn't "broken"... it had never been right in the first place..... Sob, sob!
I will wait till I hear from Steve about his reaction to this fiasco with the emerald..... I am so sad about this.... not about to give up on the emerald though, I love it... but I really do expect better from any ring, let alone a £1799 one.:11:

Just got an email from Steve offering help .......as ever, the Rocks response is good.... but I would rather not have been in this situation to start with!:52:

WOW That is stunning!!!<a href="http://plugin.smileycentral.com/http%253A%252F%252Fwww.smileycentral.com%252F%253Fpartner%253DZSzeb008%255FZNxdm824YYGB%2526i%253D36%252F36%255F11%255F1%2526feat%253Dprof/page.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/36/36_11_1.gif" alt="SmileyCentral.com" border="0"><img border="0" src="http://plugin.smileycentral.com/http%253A%252F%252Fimgfarm%252Ecom%252Fimages%252Fnocache%252Ftr%252Ffw%252Fsmiley%252Fsocial%252Egif%253Fi%253D36%252F36_11_1%2526uiv%253D3.0/image.gif"></a>

Just a quick response Mathilda - I suspect the emerald is loose because there are two claws that are only just holding the stone in place. If you look at your third photo (the one of your emerald ring on it's own) and look at the top left and bottom left claws you can probably see what I mean. In terms of goldweight, unfortunately in order to bring jewellery at "affordable" prices, ring shanks are getting lighter and lighter. RocksTV are in no way the only ones doing this, most others are too. Inexcusable for a ring that you've paid £1799 for.

One other thing ........ photographing Emeralds and getting (a) the true colour and (b) so that it looks like the clarity you see instead of full of inclusions is almost impossible! It's one of those gemstones that's a bit camera shy!!!

p.s. I'm pretty sure that the ring in the RocksTV picture (4th picture along) is the one you have. If you look at the claws you can see the same problem! The cuts are the same on both gemstones (from what I can see) and I suspect the dimensions are too - it looks different because of the angle of the camera.

BH: Steve says he will have the ring fully repaired for me.

Meeshoo, I take your point about the claws, though the octagon shape can be a little deceptive. I think the problem IS there in the Rocks pic, though I don't think it IS the same ring.... they had two, it seems - and the card I have with mine shows a different (mm x mm) sizing from my actual ring.... much nearer the more square shape of the fourth pic .... my stone is decidedly rectangular, by comparison.

Well, here I am again with another update on my fat Colombian Emerald ring.
(apologies, by the way for my bad habit of typing colUmbian in previous posts.... sorry)

I sent the ring back to Steve in December as he said he would have the stone re-set and more gold put in the shank.

I got the ring back and guess what? Instead of two claws holding the stone and a skinny mis-shapen shank, I now had a ring with only one claw holding the stone and an even thinner shank! I couldn't believe it, I was very upset.
After some time, over New Year shut down etc., I was persuaded to return the ring again to Rocks, with the promise that THIS time, a proper job would be done .... to say I was dubious is to put it mildly, but in the end I sent the ring back.
Steve and Tony kept telling me that they couldn't understand what had gone wrong but that they would ensure that all went well this time.
I have to say that I was completely mystified as to how, having been given a specific task by a customer as important to Regency/Stanley’s as Steve and Rocks must be, to reset a stone and add gold to the shank, they managed to have the ring come back in an even worse state. What part of the instructions from Steve did they not understand??
I feared that by sending the ring back again, that something even worse would happen but Steve said he was determined to make me a happy customer again so back it went on the 9th January.
Now, call me old fashioned, but in my business dealings, if any client had this magnitude of a problem, we would move heaven and earth to put things right…. and fast, too, so I rather expected that Regency would get on the case pretty sharpish and do their utmost to make me, and Steve, both happy campers ….seems that is not their way.
Tony finally got the ring back last Thursday, when he and Steve examined it and declared it was looking good.
Great news, I hear you say?!! Well, not yet…. The bloomin’ thing isn’t here yet.
I had asked if it could be sent out on Friday with a special Saturday delivery, because I was desperate to see it and didn’t want it stuck in a DPD van ( or under one, as some of your jewellery has been!!) over the weekend. I got an email from Tony on Sunday, saying that it would be sent out on Monday only to get an email of Monday morning telling me it had just been despatched. Tony said he was just too busy to get it out on Monday. ( Incidentally, the last few things I have bought from Rocks, I haven’t had an email to tell me they were en route… and I’ve never had the text message)
Tracking the delivery today, with eager hope, I discover that the parcel was picked up at 16.11pm yesterday…….six hours after I got the email saying it was despatched…. It reached Aberdeen this morning at 10.19 am and at 13.49 it was shown as being “Held” …… Aaarrrghh!
Call to DPD tells me parcel “may have arrived too late for delivery today, was I expecting it” Too flippin’ right I was!
“You’ll get it tomorrow”, says the DPD girl… “is that alright?” Aaargh!!
Now showing as being on a van for delivery, at one minute after request made for redelivery tomorrow.
What is it about me and this emerald ring?
Am I ever going to get it, shiny and perfect, on my hot little hand ?
Is it so much to ask to get a wearable ring, fit for purpose and delivered next day on a next day delivery service? Mind you, I only paid £1799 ….so perhaps I can’t expect TOO much ???????

I’m peeved, with EVERYBODY!! Can you tell?

Oh what a shame Mathilda. I was watching when you bought it and was excited on your behalf.

I can't imagine how frustrating this has all been for you, but I'm glad to hear that Rocks have been trying to sort it out for you, just seems that you are destined to go through hell and high water before you get it.

I'm keeping everything crossed that it will arrive and be absolutely perfect after all this palaver you have to go through.

Let us know when you get it, I'm sure I'm not the only one waiting with baited breath to hear the outcome.

:doggie:

Thanks, 'Gals' , it has just been one disappointment after another. Helped today to vent on ST ! And, as some little twerp is always singing.... "tomorrow is another day" !!

Let's hope it all works out for you tomorrow. I too watched when you bought this beautiful ring. Fingers crossed for a happy ending.

I do hope you get your 'hot little hands' on your beautiful ring asap Mathilde. What a disappointing saga to what should have been a happy story! It's a gorgeous ring and like everyone else I'm waiting with baited breath to hear the next, hopefully , very happy chapter!

I wouldn't be peeved, I'd be LIVID!! And for £1799 I'd expect a fairly spectaular ring as well. I hope they've done the job properly this time Mathilda and you do indeed get what you deserve and something warranting what you've paid a lot of money for. :pPC:

Mathilda, I also watched drooling when you bought that beautiful ring. It is a shame that it has turned into a saga, I can appreciate your frustration with the whole business. What I will say is that it is a very special piece and a month, six months down the line all this will be irrelevant as you wear a stunning piece of jewellery that is just how you want it. Don't let this part of the experience spoil that for you, wear it with pride knowing that it was worth it in the end. :spider:

Just caught up with this thread Mathilda. I can understand how frustrating it must have been for you and do so hope you get your ring today and that you are thrilled with it. All fingers and toes crossed!
P.S. Thanks for the u to o shift!

Mathilda, you have every right to be peeved!!! I hope your ring arrives safely today and it is perfect!!
