Do Ideal World charge suppliers for the air time for their products? It might explain the wide disparity of airtime given to products.

Yes, but not for everything, and surprisingly not as much as you would think. Ideal World charge for "advertiser Hours" where companies buy airtime by the hour, or a Pick Of The Day.
In case you haven't seen yet, I am an ex- Ideal World employee, so can confirm that this answer is correct, not speculation. I have come on this forum not to slate or defend Ideal World but to provide some correct answers to questions people usually speculate about and come up with false answers.
