just to put my two penneth worth in - I'm a veggie, 22 years long, i get all the vitamins iron etc from my diet, i do eat eggs (from my chickens in my garden, they have the life of riley!)and when we are skint, which is often at the mo i buy non veggie cheese, but, its perfectly possible to get all you need form a proper veggie diet (nowt with a face is the rule)
i also have acute crohns disease and have been tested for every intolerance around and at each and every test the dr would say they probably see someone with a true intolerance about 1 in 10, and then it can be treated ( by a dr or specialist with gradual exposure - very slow and doesn't always work but it does work for some) To me there is no reason to kill to eat but, i'm not a veggie who stuffs it down peoples throats( i know this rant doesn't look like it:tongue: but, i get a bit narked when people say a veggie diet can't be a full nutritious diet)
There is no excuse to kill for fashion ever

Er, Emu's have feathers actually. Emu footwear is sheepskin so a by product of the food chain. Unless you mean Emu Oil from the Margaret Dabbs range, Emu meat is not popular at all and they are not killed just for the oil.

Unless I'm being completely thick isn't QVC talking about Emu(sheepskin) boots here and not actual emus.?

If it WAS actual emus, then I dread to think where you'd put your feet...

You could run very fast though!!!!!!

I hadn't realised how this post had turned. I had actually posted a new thread after seeing Dennis until BB pointed me in the right direction. I just think it odd that QVC don't tell the customer about Dennis' true business credentials. All the other designers they are quick to tell you about their main lines and where they are stocked. They mention Dennis has a New York store but not really what it stocks....!!!

I think they would scare lots of customers off if they told the truth!

Anyway I know Dennis is one designer who will never get a penny from me. I am not a vegetarian but find fur for fashion truly awful!

almost word for word what i was going to say sausage (interesting moniker) ;). veggie for 25 years here and plenty of protein (and vitamin and mineral) sources. i personally don't eat soya cos i find it bouncy or tofu cos i find it slimey but i eat quorn occasionally, beans and lentils as well as cheese and eggs. i never struggle to find something to eat (although i did in the usa). i also say "nothing with a face" ;) and also don't preach about it. in fact, i've noticed time and again over the years, the reverse is true - i'm quite happily eating my meal and a meat eater will start demanding to know why i don't eat meat, then start lecturing me about the law of the jungle etc. i've no idea why it seems to wrankle some people when i never make any demands whatsoever.

i didn't read the daily mail link - i've already got burlz's pig story preying on my mind

janie, im sorry. i mentioned it to illustrate a point and not to upset anyone.

i know (((hugs))) - it's me, i'm supersensitive to any animal cruelty, i just can't handle it. my friends all know and are really good about it, saying 'don't read so and so' etc.

Really? Then you do a VERY good impression of it!

And I'm really sorry that you're unhappy with the fact that I can't stomach soya or dairy. Since you seem to find my statement a problem, you may find THIS educational.

But then, don't let the fact that I have a recognised condition get n the way of you having a snipe at me about it.

After all, you've never let it stop you in the past.

Have you, "dear"?

HC calm down dear. Being so angry cant be good for your stomach. I clicked the link in your post but didnt get beyond the first page. I have enough to deal with here what with my with hermes returns and charlie bear deliveries without learning about the digestive malfunctions of fellow forumites. I'm sure you're a slave to your condition, I'm truly sorry to have upset you.

Bless you poppet. Be well.

I emailed QVC a year or so back saying I was shocked that they promote the products of someone involved in the real fur trade, I can't actually remember what they said, but I think they didn't try to defend it, just said be reassured that his products sold through them are fake fur. Still, I don't like the idea of contributing to the fortunes of someone who makes their living with real fur in another market. I am vegetarian, but even if I wasn't I still think I'd be uncomfortable with real fur.

The sad irony is before I knew about Dennis' s other work, I already had a DB coat from QVC! I think that is why I was upset enough to email them! I'm happy to wear faux fur if that is all people do, but even the coat isn't fur I feel I unwittingly encouraged someone who deals in fur. It really makes me feel bad, though it is too small for me at the moment anyway, so one benefit of weight gain is I don't have to feel morally compromised!

LOL there's always one who goes on about "the laws of the jungle", but who can't eat pink lamb without retching...

I didn't mean to upset you or sausage (veggie sausage?); I'm just saying what my quack told me when I looked into whether going vegetarian would help me when I got diagnosed with IBS and the aforementioned food intolerances; I was told that I'd have to eat a shedload of supplements if I gave up meat.

It might have been because I'd have struggled to get protein from other sources. Or it could just have been that my doctor couldn't abide vegetarianism! :wonder:

Awwwww! How nice of you to (attempt) to condescend BB. I truly appreciate the spirit in which your message was written. :clapping:

But I am SO sorry to have upset your delicate sensibilities with talk of food intolerances. I will be more careful in future in what I say here. A lesson more of us could stand to learn, I'm sure

And angry? Awww!

Further to the points Mr BB has raised, maybe we should all think twice about airing personal issues on here in case we inadverdently offend any delicate flowers who are solely here to discuss their latest purchases.

The sort of people who would NEVER stoop to slagging off presenters and models for having hairstyles reminiscent of Nazi leaders, or for apparently not having slender ankles.

No indeed! Such criticism would NEVER be posted by these people!

Erm...

But anyway, while all this is SO much fun, I feel that a general conversation has somehow become personal - anyone else feel that, or is it just me?

IMO Uggs are indeed ugly: why women want to look like they've got Yeti feet is beyond me. Fashion has a LOT to answer for!

Yes I do feel it has become a bit personal, and I feel very guilty like Catherine that years ago I did buy a DB COAT.not knowing how he has made his money,he always talks about a celebrity clientele and mentions Joan Rivers being one of them who I always thought was an animal lover.some time ago I received a letter from q asking me to return a jewellery cleaner as it could be harmful to the aquatic environment and stating that they take these things very seriously,so why encourage DB and his slaughter of animals for people who have more money than sense to wear.
LYNN

Personally as far as I'm concerned, the minute anyone dictates ANYTHING to me, especially religion (I abhore it in all forms), they can eff-off and die sharpish!
