I was channel hopping through the Christmas movies on the weekend, and I saw the start of a film called "Christmas Cottage", it was about a young man who took up painting to save his family home. I started watching it as the painter was played by a rather nice piece of eyecandy from the TV series, "Supernatural", then I realised it was about Thomas Kinkade, so I gave up! In keeping with the usual Christmas movies, it seemed somewhat saccharine, heroic son and martyr-like mother and all at Christmas. If you are a big fan of the "painter of light", suggest you look out for it!

Many of us in this forum are indeed committed devotees of Kinkade, not only because of his masterpieces but also for his vision and scope. We are lucky that Sit Up not only have one art expert but two, something that I believe to be unique in British Shopping Television.
Lisa Brash is their senior Art Critic/Expert/Collector, a role she fills with a passion and pomp that inspires yet intrigues. Her reputation is fierce not only from Paris and New York, not only from the Pompidou and the Guggenheim to the Bruges and Istanbul and Hull, to a sunset in a solemn garden. In a pond, at the park. Feeding the ducks.

I'm emotional. Lisa is art.
I'm hoping to see some examples of representational abstract tonight, nothing contemporary.
There were some placemats and coasters sporting a print of a still-life oil painting on Bid this morning..quite breathtaking
They were beautiful, I feel the creator took inspiration from Constable. Subtle but they told a story of life and serenity.
For anyone who hasn't seen a Brash art sale here is a checklist to look out for:-
1. I managed one of the best galleries in the country
2. Don't buy it as an investment, buy it because you love it
3. We charged more than that in our gallery to frame pictures
4. Get it valued for insurance purposes
She duly obliged, of course!
But listen to her now, she reckons her producer is devaluing Stephen Gayford. Lisa love, you can do that all alone without any help! :mysmilie_19:

I saw that. The piece which was a limited run (of 35) started at over £1000 but went for £119.99 + P&P + Phone call + dubios sales person trying to offload more tat + Sit-up yearly membership club... she told us nothing about the piece or much about the artist.
She rarely says much about the print or artist but that is understandable, as usual she mostly talked about herself (her favourite passtime) :mysmilie_59:
Did you hear Lisa moaning to Yolisa at the beginning of her shift? She was bemused because someone had put on her FB page that she's self centred and only ever talks about herself - absolutely priceless! You set yourself right up for that one Lisa 'my lovely'
I think she has such a lack of self awareness that she has no idea how much she talks about herself deedee. She dosen't seem a bad girl but I mean, do any other presenters spend half their shift reading tweets about how fantastic they are?
But I don't really care about that deedee. What I very much do care about is her suggestion you can try a fragrance and return it if you don't like it (she did it last night with the Halston Cologne for Women). If she does it again I won't hesitate to complain to the ASA, it's bang out of order and completely untrue. We can say what we like about Sally but she always makes it absolutely clear (as do the returns T&C's) that you cannot return a fragrance if you take the cellophane off the box and spritz it.
It's not on!

Well I recorded the Stephen Gayford slot last night and have just watched it back. She started late so I had to endure the three awful stretchy scarves. £2.99 (£12.99 in my book) and she sold well over a hundred. Imagine them in a shop for nigh on £13, you'd be hard pushed to sell a set!
So she started with her Art Manager credential in one of the finest art galleries in the UK and she was trained in limited edition art and for an eye in art.
She loves art. 'I am very, very, very......I know a lot of people don't believe us and I haven't sold artwork for quite some time now. It used to be one of my favourite things to sell.......erm, one of, you obiously know what my favourite is cos I tell you all the time.......it's snake serum oil'

Right, The Deep Midwinter, a snowy wolf. She said it would look best on a chimney breast. Damn! I don't have one. With downlighters, nor them.
The limited edition of 35 was important as it was a very small quantity and worldwide. Again important, as it could be 'per country'. The canvas is important, more costly. Also the frame, very expensive. Snow is hard to paint because of the shading. She has a limited edition by Rock Bros, twins who paint from the edge and meet in the middle. Sacco paints back to front on perspex. Fabian Perez and Dane were given a mention. Then back to Stephen, whose niche is animals and he paints the eyes last.
Insuring your paintings is very important, do not put them on your household insurance. (I was wondering if she had to upsell this in the Gallery)
Above all you have to like your art and Lisa likes hers from Ikea. She bought a pebble picture, not one but two :wonder:

I was excited to see the next piece, a tiger, lying on it's back........then........end of recording, please press back up. Arrrrrgh those bliddy scarves had eaten in to the time slot!!!!!!!!!

Lisa's art sale for me was decidedly lacking in detail apart from extensive details pertaining to herself and a gallery she briefly worked in. I suspect 'Me' would be her specialist chosen subject on Mastermind :mysmilie_19:

Aww Momma, such a shame you didn't get the full impact of Lisa's teachings however, I have the following advice for you:
open your mind to a completely new way of thinking - this will take some time
look at art using your eyes but use your heart and soul as well - feel that emotion
imagine you are a sponge and Lisa's knowledge is water - absorb every learning opportunity
imagine you are dehydrated and Lisa is the water you need - drink in what she says
think of her art evenings as an open university programme - I sit with a notepad and paper making notes that I use in my studies to further my own knowledge
just remember Lisa is art, she has more passion and understanding than we can ever dream of, she would never want you to feel inferior or intimidated, she just wants the love and appreciation of art to be disseminated
and remember, Lisa is so incredibly humble and modest, she'll squirm with embarrassment and shy away from anything in the way of praise or personal discussion

I'm in something of a quandary deedee. A creative junction, a state of artistic upheaval and disillusionment.
My confidence in Lisa has been knocked, I feel vulnerable. I don't know where such negativity has come from but I'm now a doubter. I'm beginning to wonder if (brace yourself) Lisa Brash might not be quite as knowledgeable in the art arena as I once thought.

I understand that you have this fleeting doubt but that's just what it is - fleeting
think back to a time when you were overwhelmed by her teachings and stood in awe of her then try to take yourself back there to rekindle that inspiration
it will come back, I've been there myself
I spoke to Lisa about it, she granted me an audience, and she was delighted that I had doubts and questions, she said it meant that I truly thought about it and used my heart as well as my brain
use it Wirral, use that emotion, that feeling, that uncertainty, it'll be ultimately constructive and remember, Lisa understands

I don't know what it is. It's almost like I have someone or something whispering down my ear 'she's a bullshitter, she's full of it'.
It's crazy, I know it's all rubbish and there's no doubting Lisa Brash's art credentials. After all, she's fully qualified. I'm just having a creative episode. I'll be ok after some Horlicks, a read of Gauguin's Journals and good sleep.
I need artistic renewal.
