What do the bold headings mean?

I still haven't figured them out. I thought that bold topic headings meant that there were new posts that I hadn't read, but they seem totally inconsistent.

For example, I don't read some topics eg beauty items, but after a while the titles change from bold to normal, even though I haven't looked at them.

On the other hand, I just read a bolded topic, only to find that I'd already read it.

I agree it's inconsistent and a pain.

I have found that the cookies must update around every 24 hours and even if you've not read a thread it makes it look like you have by unbolding the thread topic.

Also, if you click the little icon to read the newest unread posts, it doesn't always take you to the last post after the one you last read, it just chooses any old new post which often means you miss posts (and this is sometimes why the thread topic remains in bold if there's a whole page you've missed).

If you read a thread and click "back" it doesn't refresh the page, so threads you've read still show bold unless you manually refresh.

I'm glad I'm not the only one having these problems (including clicking the little box, which I hadn't mentioned).
