Cartier has accused QVC Inc. of selling watches that infringe on several of the French jeweler’s designs.

Cartier alleged that the West Chester, Pa.-based home shopping giant has promoted and sold watches that copy its Santos and Pasha Grille trade dresses, according to a complaint filed in U.S. District Court in Manhattan Feb. 13, WWD reports. The jeweler also named two of QVC’s business partners, JMAM LLC and TWI Watches LLC, as defendants in the case.

At least some of watches are part of the Joan Rivers-branded jewelry collection, WWD reports. Rivers conducts business through the JMAM company.

Cartier accuses all three companies of trade dress infringement and QVC and TWI Watches of design patent infringement in the complaint, WWD reports. The luxury brand is seeking a permanent injunction, the destruction of any infringing goods, all profits from the sale of any infringing items, and other unspecified damages.

Source: www.jckonline.com

QVC have been fined quite recently over the Brite Bits thing too. Took a long time for that one and it was hundreds of thousands of dollars too.

They have cut jobs in their warehouses and closed some of the outlets stores in the US. Infact rumour has it that they now send quite a bit to TJ Maxx(their TKMaxx).

QVC's profits MUST have suffered in the current climate, and they have to report to shareholders. And as the mantra is maximum profit for minimum payout there have to be cuts in jobs/facilities. Makes their choices of semi-high end TSV's targeted at middle classes even more surprising. I know TSV's are organized month/year in advance, but surely an organisation would/could/should responsed to such changes?

I have never had a good look at Joan River watches, but if Cartier sues, they have to be good copies, or are they suing for publicity? (I think I am in danger of becoming very very very cynical:33:)

I would not know what thoose Cartier Watches looked like but I would not think QVc are alone. Maybe Just a goo target.

I've got a Cartier Santos and it doesn't look like any Joan Rivers watch I've ever seen :33:

So what if QVC has a copy of a cartier. If people look closely it would be obvious it's not a cartier watch, surely. Brands copy big names all the time. People who want a cartier would buy one and people who want a copy would buy the qvc version. They are different clientele I think. So why sue for goodness sakes?

Oh that's funny cos they premiered those Renato watches recently, and I'm sure their designer used to work for Cartier. The watch forums are full of comparisons between Renato other luxury watch brands so I'm not surprised this has happened as they look so *very* similar.

In Renato's case I think they may have gone a bit further than just copying the looks. From what's been said on this forum they've sailed a bit close to the wind with the names as well.
