Seeing that a number of companies are proclaiming their mascaras to be 'smudge' free (Liz Earle springs to mind). I once read a tip by a top make up artist to prevent smudging and it works....
If you take moisturiser and foundation up to the bottom eye lid - its this that causes the smudging ! so to counteract it, just dab some power on top to take away the shine and leave a matt finish. I tried this as I never use powder, - a mousse foundation and Elemis moisturiser are my products of choice, - and after years of running my finger under my eye to wipe away smudges, which happened whatever mascara brand I used, I can now have my mascara on for hours without any problems. All due to a little powder under the eye rim.
