There was a box of 6 from Fortnum & Mason in the Good Housekeeping taste tests (it scored well) and it was £12.95 so even with the F&M name attached, it works out cheaper than the QVC box of 8, including P&P.

sorry, brissles, can't answer that, but at a guess Harrods is probably cheaper (the only time I ever shopped in Harrods, I bought something just so I could walk out with the carrier bag showing - confession time, how shallow did that make me?).

I hate anything containing dried fruit, mince pies, Christmas cake, Christmas pudding are all yuk to me but my OH holds a world record for the highest number of mince pies eaten before, during and after Christmas. I`ve been buying them for a couple of weeks and his current favourite are the Aldi specially selected ones with real butter pastry, last week he had them from asda but he`s says the Aldi specially selected ones beat the asda ones. Next week I`ll probably buy some from a stall on our local market and they bake their own bread and make their own cakes and pies. Rest assured by January he will have taste tested every damned mince pie in the NW !

Knocks spots of my tatty old Sainsburys bag for life that's for sure....... mind you the prices now, my husband gave the woman on the till the tights I'd just bought and said "you'll need these for the next trolley" last week, she burst out laughing, not sure if she really got what he meant though. :mysmilie_17:

:mysmilie_15:nicnac, In those days, it was something just to be allowed through the doors - remember all the publicity about the doormen (or women) "escorting" people back out on to the street because they were deemed not to be dressed to Harrods standards? Does that still go on? I know there was quite a bit of hooha about it back in the day. Probably like you, my eyes were on stalks in there, prices enough to give you heart failure - and I also looked around for something I could afford without rushing into the bank next door and asking for a mortgage! Still, it was worth it, just to get my mitts on that coveted green plastic carrier bag (so "on trend", as a certain presenter might say!!).:mysmilie_15:

Seems expensive, but I bet they're nice. I haven't been into Harrods for about 4 years. Might go there tomorrow for fun. I could have a snack in the Upper Circle. I like Harrods and Selfridges. It's always nice to wander round and look at all those things, most of which I can't afford and don't want anyway, but it's just nice to do. Now I've got my new car I can go to Chiswick Market on the first Sunday of each month!historymystery

we had dinner for my nieces birthday on the terrace resturant. the food was sublime. the service perfect. i had half a lobster and filet steak for £30 i think considering how wonderful everything was it was worth every penny.

That's excellent value for such a top range venue - you can pretty well pay that in some 'chain' pubs for a meal these days.

we had hundreds of those pies last year in the weeks leading up to xmas lol...they ran out of them xmas eve. it was funny. every one that dropped round had these delicious pies.the main reason why i dont rate the real pie company was not the cost but the inconsistency. every single pie even if they were the same variety tasted different in a bad way. the brisket was as dry and tough as an old blanket. and just as ropey. in a pie thats not the choice of cut i would use. i could go on ....
