I do like Christmas, but I certainly don't go mad about it. My family decided a few years ago that we'd just buy proper presents for the kids, and as mine are the only two that are still young (all our nieces and nephews are grown up) that keeps it simple, and for the few adults we see at Christmas we just buy a little token gift so we all have something to open. Last year I bought some little bits and pieces and I made stuff with the kids like homemade sweets and miniature chrissy cakes and wrapped them in sparkly celophane, we had really good fun. We don't bother getting dressed till tea time on Chrissy day (I'm a northern girl too, dinner is in the middle of the day, tea is, well, teatime....?).

We don't normally go out over Christmas, and much less New Year, which I absplutely HATE, but that's from choice, we do sometimes have 'dinner parties' through the year, though round here we call it 'coming-round-for-something-to-eat' which sounds far less grand. Most weekends we enjoy our own company, staying in in our jammies and wooly socks and watching telly but when we do go out our social life is a few of us going out for a curry every couple of months, for which I don't have to bother getting dressed up, nice top, jeans and boots is my uniform of choice. I don't own a dress, not even a 'little black' one, and all the sequiny, sparkly, shiny christmas bling definitely isn't me, I'd feel ridic in anything like that quite frankly.

Sounds like there are more of us that don't live the QVC life than do, doesn't it?
 
Oh, it's nice to know I'm not alone! I have only ever once been to a big work 'do' (I hired a dress on that occasion). I worked for a large telecomms firm with a primarily young workforce (I was fairly elderly at 33). It was awful - the loos were full of weeping, vomiting girlies who had overdone the free booze and a lot of the men turned into boorish oafs. I have been to a number of much smaller works dos but these were pretty informal and only required a smart/casual outfit and a bit of lippy!

I love cooking but only do a dinner party type thing once in a blue moon - and booze or choccies are more than welcome but not essential. Christmas is a quiet affair, often just the 2 of us and the dog. We don't give presents, I usually do 2 shoeboxes for the Link Romania appeal - I find it quite fun filling them with goodies. I really hate all the hype and commercialism and, apart from a few treats (including chocolate figs from Lakeland) I don't go mad.
 
i've been dithering about the ninja processor and see it will be very useful for my mojito (had to look that up) and daquiris...........:cheeky:
 
I noticed that when selling the Panasonic vac yesterday, Anne Dawson (what a grating voice!!!) said you should buy 2, one of them for your holiday home.

I also heard her say ( and I paraphrase) " we can't afford to spend £100's of a vacuum at the moment - not we like we used to a few years ago:cheeky:"
 
I was born in central London and have always lived and worked in London. When I was younger (in my 20's) foot loose and fancy free I loved having and going to dinner parties, and enjoyed going out after work to the West End and Covent Garden.

But life moves on, things change and I for one don't want to do what I did when I was younger. I certainly don't have the energy I did and find entertaining a real chore what with all the extra cleaning, shopping, cooking - just can't be bothered. I also can't stand it when people turn up 'unexpectedly' aghhhhh.

Both the other half and I have started new jobs this year but I don't want to go to either of the works dos.

We've just had a breavement in the family and that changes things this year. We'll still get a tree, have candles around the home and clear lights everywhere, but I'm not going overboard with food, just our traditional late Christmas lunch. Then the best part....relaxing. On the sofa, heating on and bundled up in our slankets, with a sherry vegging out watching a couple of fav films. That will be it this year, relaxing and quiet. No masssive amounts of presents, no board games, no extended family just for the sake of it, no buffet tea (maybe just the cheese board).
 
OMG, I am so pleased to read this thread, like others I thought it was me in semi-rural, clog-wearing, whippet friendly :cheeky::cheeky: ooop North Leeds who didn't have the supposed "southern QVC lifestyle! We do meet up with friends for an Xmas do at someone's house but they'd be stunned and think I'd finally lost it if I turned up in sequins and a "little MH number". Can't remember the last time I went to/had a dinner party and our barbeques are usually in someone's back garden and high-heels/floating numbers are totally out - not least because of the fire risk!
 
It seems we're in the majority on this forum where we work hard to enjoy what little leisure time we can get and not waste it fretting on organising formal social events. I'm back at work tomorrow and if it is as busy and as stressful as it was last week I will lock myself in a dark room, rocking and sucking my thumb....NOT planning my dinner party!

Well this is it Huggles, we are working so hard that we don't have loads of leisure time and when we do we want to relax..I had to sack someone last week - can I sit in the room with you Huggles?

Since an American bank took over the place where I work they've scrapped the Christmas party, I'm quite glad really, no pressure to buy daft glittery accessories and painful shoes never to be worn again.

maybe we should have our own shopping telly cyber do? we can all choose what qvc item we're gonna wear - bags-i first pick from the MH collection:angel:
 
I think a QVC themed "virtual Christmas" is a brilliant idea, outfits, make up,home decor, food, festive lighting and daft gifts, we could do the lot.

Think I will be top to toe Indigo Moon, feet shod in Emu boots and finished off with the snow and ice grippers. I will also be draped in Dimonique and some B and W crystal animals. I am hoping for a brooch of all the reindeer plus a massive glittering sleigh.

What shall we have as the party music? it must chosen from those who have been flogging their latest release.
 
I'm definitely in quack quack quicker factory. One of those tops with a tree with baubles on.
