I see TJC has been getting into a bit of trouble with the ASA as of late:

This one was them selling shungite and the guest claiming could block 5G and had lots of miracle health benefits. Crazy that they would think it was a good idea to make these claims.

One week passes, and this is published:

This time, selling a miracle weight loss body contour device, with no evidence for the claims.

I wonder if this is going to be the start of a flurry of complaints being upheld?

Weird how that Shungite took so long to get published

One weird thing there is TJC saying "external guests" The language used and the fact he used to sell it a hell of a lot sounds awfully like a certain Mr Gould to me but I have no evidence that I am correct with that.

Haven't seen Shungite for a long long time either

It really is a lottery with these things as you can see from all the recently upheld complaints on the website they only ever have 1 complainant

About time. The way some of the presenters try sell the weightloss machines are shameless. I have said for a while one or two offer medical/weightloss advice as part of their pitch. I’m sorry but they are not qualified. I’ve found that incredibly misleading and worrying for those who have taken there “desperate to get a sale” pitch as truth.

They should be slapped with huge fines that is the only thing these channels understand.

Not sure if anything has been done, doesn’t appear a slap or presenter education has happened. I watched for a few minutes a presentation on the weightloss device last night and no change regarding the ability and the claims of the machine. It was a shocking presentation with statements and claims that were preposterous. I am wondering if this is the end of the beauty channel, they are not getting in experts they have not changed how they sell the products and looks like they are getting rid of surplus stock. They are stopping the 6pm shows I wonder if the 6am will follow soon??

It is a bit of a strange one really considering the evening slot is not on any Freeview channel it does ok from what you can tell from the outside

I caught a bit the other night and they didn't appear very happy with the evening slot is going and that it would come back soon stronger

I personally can't remember an example of a channel reducing hours and things ever going back to previous

As for the presentation changing they never do with these ASA "warnings" sadly they have very very little power or at least they choose not to use hardly any, go back through many of the breaches and the same way of selling is still happening today across all channels

Again if the ASA was any kind of body with a backbone they would be monitoring future sales of a product or presenter who has had a breach this never happens, eventually somebody will be bothered to complain and the whole thing starts again

Not sure we can believe what we see, if the sycophantic messages they insist on reading out are anything to go by, I’m not sure I believe they are real as who would write that. The beauty channel is a great concept and if they got the presenters right got people in who know what they are talking about and the presenters stop thinking they are specialists, stop condescending us and let the guests speak I think it could successful. There are some I can watch for hours and spend money, some I cannot watch for more than a couple of minutes. The fact it’s not on freeveiw surly means it’s less costly to air. I think they are struggling, and it’s been in decline for the last few months as they have got above themselves and I think people are losing faith. ASA need to look again at that fat loss device presentations the claims made, the presentation last night were ridiculous, do they believe what they are saying? It’s boarding ludicrous, they will say anything they read off google to get a sale.

Freeview slot is very expensive I believe (hence why Ideal World took an undisclosed sum from TJC when they switched channels a while back for a lower more expensive number)

You can see the sales numbers are lower at night than in the morning slot, but the morning slot is on Freeview (for 3 hours) I believe at some stage 2 channels at the same time and the evening is only on sky or streaming

I would agree I highly doubt the costs of getting the later slot on Freeview could be justified at present

If there are enough complaints, then the ASA can make a referral to Ofcom, which has statutory powers. Indeed, that's what was going to happen to Bid TV, but they collapsed before Ofcom actually completed any investigation.

The presentation must not be broadcast again in the form complained of. We told Shop TJC Ltd to ensure their future ads did not exaggerate the capabilities and performance of their products, and to ensure they held adequate substantiation for any claims they made.

That is the complaint the OP posted that was published last Wednesday, since then the product mentioned has been on at least 4 times probably a lot more, and as stated above with a very similar presentation.

The reality is being "niche" which shopping tv in the broad picture is actually helps them in some ways if 5 million people were regularly watching the channels the complaints would reflect that and things may have to change

The presentation has not changed at all, so no compliance there. Things do have to change. The cavi shaper for example, “stimulates the endocrine system and flushes the fat out” NO NO NO, I’m not a gp but do work in the medical industry, what she said was all wrong. I cannot believe that is acceptable . The device the complaint was raised, that presentation last night was embellished even more. They have not listened to the warning at all, it looks desperate and leaves the presenters looking desperate also. I wonder if it is going down hence why they have not complied with the presentation recommendations! Shame, as I like it every now and then. But changes in delivery has to change.

I remember when the Beauty Channel launched with Chloe, and I had really high hopes that it could be great. Well, that never really happened, it just became a dumping ground for obscure beauty brands that they managed to pick up as a close out or a vehicle for overpriced Opatra. Chloe distanced herself from it pretty sharpish. I never watch it now, and I hadn’t realised that they were reducing the hours. What product was it that they got into trouble over?

Ah thank you Trainspotter. I remember seeing it on the main channel, with Chloe and an American presenter. I was working from home and had it on in the background and I think it was on for about 3 hours! Crazy.

You’re welcome. I’m thinking it will be a slow reduction of the beauty channel, first the 6pm then the 6am and they will do a few hours on the main channel. This must be the case otherwise surly they would have had to change how they present the products on air as per the warnings. . The claims are ludicrous, there is a sniff of desperation at the moment so I’m wondering if they are just getting rid of stock. . They do not have qualifications to make such claims and ask people to text in for bespoke weightloss , health diet programmes. It’s gone past the point of reasonable. I think this is the start of the demise of the beauty channel, I will be disappointed but also it’s their own doing. Bringing in a couple of the presenters over the past year or two have not helped. If they had got that right I think the concept would have worked! Opatra is great, but they don’t live up to the claims TJC presenters make. . Opatra are on less and less looks like they to are pulling away from them which is why they have had to bring in other device manufacturers. Again understandable, if presenters representing and selling their brand are making ludicrous, over inflated claims it doesn’t make them look good.
