Carol"s Ring

Shame about Carols' ring not fitting her. However, second hand is second hand!

On another note though; Gems will be offering a new service soon, whereby they bespoke set our loose gemstones. I think this may become a minefield of ill-fitting jewellery and a customer services nightmare.

Confusion over sizes from buyers and all manor of complaints. I am sure the customers will be advised that once made bespoke, they won't accept responsibility for mistakes. At their end, it is possible that a typo could occur, then who is it down to?

Inge )

Only about 2 years after it was promised, I am sure it was Easter 2 years ago Steve said it would be ready!!

As for Carol's ring, I assume it was meant to be her wedding band for her forthcoming wedding and if they had it made and size was wrong then if they really felt the need to sell it on then why didn't they just sell it as a "one off" and not bother saying it was made for Carol? :wonder:

Like Sazza, I don't understand why anything was said at all. Let's face it, loads of what we buy will have been returned by another customer for one reason or another so in all honesty I don't see the difference. What about all the stuff that gets loaned out to celebs, etc. Truth of the matter is, when you buy something like this you don't usually know its full history so maybe this ring has been around the block a little less than some others. I tell you what though, I certainly wouldn't want a ring that had been on some of those repulsive fingernails and Carol's hands are always immaculate whatever else any of us think about her. Personally, I like her nuttiness but can understand that she's not everyone's cuppa. xxxxxxxxxxx

I assume he bought her engagement ring! why didn't he know her size?

I suppose he wanted to surprise her and maybe got the size wrong for both rings, but the engagement ring could be resized.
I agree completely with Argey, I don't understand the furore about a 'second-hand' ring. She'll have tried it on and it didn't fit and can't be resized, so now they are selling it - I really can't see the problem. I quite like Carol too, I met her at the first ever Rocks Open Day and she was very personable. Yes really, in those days I was keen enough to drive 2 1/2 hours each way up and down the motorway to attend an Open Day! How things have changed and how sad it is.

Who on earth would want to buy a ring made for a presenter that most people can't stand????? Knowing it was made for her is a serious turn off (apologies to Carole fans).

Not a very nice comment to make.

Not knowing how many of you actually saw the ring....not many I suspect!. So I shall try and describe it which may explain why they decided and Barry was apparently involved in this decision, that Carol should sell it in person.

Firstly it wasn't a standard size, being a size M, so that may have required explanation. Secondly I personally have never seen Gems do a ring of this calibre and design...so more explanation maybe?

It resembled what I would call a full eternity ring, consisting of about 30 princess cut VS diamonds tension and channel set in 18k white gold and weighing about 1.4cts. A link to a sort of similar design below..

Rather unfortunate that her fiance got the size wrong but she said she has now had a replacement made in the correct size. Think it was meant to be her wedding ring, but obviously a variation on the norm?

Would've fitted me perfectly........

Awww shame Sacha .... if my lottery numbers come up this week it will be yours.

Yes, it was intended to be her wedding ring. As it couldn't be resized and because it is a Gems' ring I can see nothing wrong with it being sold on air. Whoever buys it will have a beautiful ring at, I would imagine, a very competitive price.

Can I 'ave one to please Fluffster. It would make a fantastic friendship ring - you know how highly I think of you.
Enormous intellect such as yours combined with great beauty is very, very rare.
Ouch, ouch, don't move - I've got me tongue stuck on the sole of your shoe. <a href="http://plugin.smileycentral.com/http%253A%252F%252Fwww.smileycentral.com%252F%253Fpartner%253DZSzeb008%255FZNxpt484YYGB%2526i%253D3%252F3%255F7%255F9v%2526feat%253Dprof/page.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/3/3_7_9v.gif" alt="SmileyCentral.com" border="0"><img border="0" src="http://plugin.smileycentral.com/http%253A%252F%252Fimgfarm%252Ecom%252Fimages%252Fnocache%252Ftr%252Ffw%252Fsmiley%252Fsocial%252Egif%253Fi%253D3%252F3_7_9v%2526uiv%253D3.0/image.gif"></a> xxxxxxxxxxx

When I started the thread I didn't object to Carol selling it, just that having it on day after day and refusing to drop the price at all appeared really stupid on a "Genuine Falling Auction Channel".

:mysmilie_17:

Sorry Argey it was a 'one off' and it's got Sacha's name on it ..... but you can have anything else that takes your fancy. :sun:

Now please get up off the floor and put your tongue back where it belongs. :mysmilie_845: xxx

Awh fanx Fluffy wuffy. I'll take a wander round Hatton Garden, and best take Meesh with me
to make sure I don't get fiddled out of a few grand.
Okay if we take a limo instead of the waagon? <a href="http://plugin.smileycentral.com/http%253A%252F%252Fwww.smileycentral.com%252F%253Fpartner%253DZSzeb008%255FZNxpt484YYGB%2526i%253D3%252F3%255F10%255F6%2526feat%253Dprof/page.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/3/3_10_6.gif" alt="SmileyCentral.com" border="0"><img border="0" src="http://plugin.smileycentral.com/http%253A%252F%252Fimgfarm%252Ecom%252Fimages%252Fnocache%252Ftr%252Ffw%252Fsmiley%252Fsocial%252Egif%253Fi%253D3%252F3_10_6%2526uiv%253D3.0/image.gif"></a> xxxxxxxxxxxxx

:mysmilie_514: :mysmilie_514: Argey ..... that would be taking my generosity a little too far.

You can take Meesh with you to Gems Online Boutique and Puss says you can borrow little Archie for the wagon.

Think that's more than fair.

Not a very nice comment to make.

Perhaps but I'm speaking personally. I can't stand her as a presenter. So for me, I would watch and NEVER buy if I thought I was getting something that had originally been made for her. I won't be alone in that thought process either. Perhaps I could have put it more delicately but in all honesty, I really detest what GemsTV have become and this selling of a presenter's mis-made ring is just totally wrong.

If the ring is 1.4ct (or thereabouts) and they're trying to charge over £2k then this is SERIOUSLY overpriced. I suspect that they thought it would command a premium if somebody thought they were buying something that Carole had wanted/commissioned. Perhaps I'm being cynical but I wonder why they even felt the need to comment. Despite the price being exceptionally high, if somebody had loved the ring they would have bought it but GemsTV tried to hard sell again. It's not warranted or called for.

It's just getting to the point for me that they can't stoop much lower and I really really really hate what it's become.

If anyone was buying that off the website they would have no idea of the ring size, I can't see it stated anywhere.

It is priced on the web as less that what it was going for in the auction!!

Well.......its now dropped down to £1499 for the next 50 minutes on the website!

What is the profit margin on that ring :wonder: That is a big drop - maybe the computer made an error or they are selling at below cost price (in the words of presenters):giggle:

Agree with Meeshoo, TJC do stunning diamonds at much better price

I guess Carol wants to get the money she paid for it back (or her partner) plus Gems went their cut of it too hence the extra dosh?
