On paper, this looks like a pretty good deal - a £75 leather handbag for £44. Let's face it, Ashwood are a discount brand, almost excusively sold at reduced prices, apart from their own website which appears to exist to add truth to their original prices as much as it is to sell handbags. As some of you may know, I bought an Ashwood bag a few years back and I was really disappointed with it, the leather was uneven, it was poky and the magnetic clasp kept popping open if you put anything substantial inside. I've subsequently seen them up close in TK Maxx and again, you can see the quality isn't that great. Straggly straps, uneven textures.
At a glance, this tsv bag looks great, but take a closer look and it really isn't. For starters, it's a real stretch to describe it as a "tote" - It's a grab bag with a straggly strap that you can attach. On a plus side it looks smart, and I like the metal studs on the bottom. I watched the demo and it's a very small bag and despite what they're saying it does not look big enough to hold your everyday needs. There are dints in the leather which makes parts of the bag collapse inwards, lumpy bits where the bag joins to the base, and if that's the ones they're using for the demo - I dread to think what you'll end up receiving.
It's a cheap bag, fair enough but don't expect anything spectacular!

OH wanted a bag from me for xmas but it was a last minute request when the seams started to come apart on hers, so we couldn't get it before xmas as she would obviously need to see it herself to make sure it was suitable.

It was impractical to go into town during the xmas break, then I came home, so she trawled the shops in her small market town and eventually decided on the one she had first looked at, which was £50.

She said she is happy with it, but I haven't seen it yet myself.

She only got it a few days ago, and lo and behold, there is a handbag TSV which looks good value, so I appreciate the review above by M1!

PS We don't have access to shops like TK Maxx.

I too bought an Ashwood bag from QVC a few years ago. It was cheap, zips were far too small, not really any use at all. It was made in India, after the BA harping on about they have their own tannery, and made in the UK. She still says about the tannery in the demos but no longer states UK made. I sent it back! Doubt it would have been for for purpose as Merryone says. I do like the styles of some of the bags I must admit, but will refrain from purchase.

I was always very tempted by their bags until I saw a couple in TKMaxx. They looked awful, badly finished and cheap leather. Glad I didn’t order from QVC, as it would have gone back.

Yes, I too like some of their designs, but having seen them in the outlet, they don’t look high end at all! The TSV is too big to be a small bag, and too small to be big one (if that makes sense!)

I don’t like bags with the short handles ‘grab bag’ style that can’t be removed when the long strap is attached.

I thought it looked very cheap this morning, as if you’d have to pack it full to keep its shape.

I was an ENNY fan for decades. Beautiful soft leather that lasted for years no matter how rough you were using them. Yesterday a bought a small Ugg bag. its more sporty than elegant but its black so I can get away with using it for a more formal occasions.

I have an Enny bag that my mum bought me about 40 years ago and when you look at the quality of the leather and the stitching it really puts other bags to shame. I don't use it often as it is a little small but it's really useful and as good as new.

I think if you're buying a leather bag and you don't want to pay for a Radley or Lulu Guinness for example then you really need to see what you're getting first. The reason a lot of these bags are cheap is because the quality control isn't there. You wouldn't take a bag to the checkout with visible patchiness in the colour, lumps and bumps, dints, uneven stitching or anything about it that looks off kilter, but when you order from somewhere like Q, the picker will just throw the first one that comes to hand into the bag and pass it onto the courier. You may be lucky, but the chances are you won't be and it'll have to be returned along with all the faff that goes with it - No thank you!

Never been a fan of 'hard' rigid leather bags. I understand that people like Radley and Ashwood, but I don't like bags where I have to fight to widen the opening to get my hand in (and thus scratching my hand on the zip), to get anything out. I also hate black and dark linings where you need a torch to find a purse. Steer clear too of grab handles - ok if you're 20, but I like a long handle - not a separate flappy detachable strap - so I can slip it on my shoulder.

Given a preference I now love a quality velvet bag, some brilliant ones on Etsy, good choices of carpet bags or 20's style shoulder bags.

I like a sling ‘banana’ shape which has a zip the full width of the bag but is not too deep.I have a Radley that shape in a lovely soft leather and it started with my first Kipling, I think ‘Morrisey’ many years ago.
