Hotel Chocolat Sold

Just heard this on radio and apparently Angus Thirwell - one of the two founders - is currently the CEO and is staying on in that role.

Says he’s going to put 80% of his 144m back in to the company?

Other founder is retiring but also putting some of his payout in..

I really hope that means that the ethics etc will remain strong - they have their own organic cocoa farm/estate in St Lucia…
(Sorry they are based locally to me/in press and I used to be a member of their tasting club years ago!
Think it’s gone downhill with its expansion..)

What I find odd is it was doing really well and has 100 plus stores in UK, but they fell down trying to expand into USA and Japan etc.

They say the sale to Mars is going to help with overseas expansion, but if they lost so many millions trying to do it before, why keep trying?!

They can hardly call themselves a “posh/prestige” brand now if Mars have bought them. I bet their prices won’t come down though (not that I ever buy Hotel Chocolat.)

I wonder if the sale will be mentioned on air? Doubtful, in my opinion,
