I used to love the smell of Gauloises. I worked in the ‘City’ for many years when smoking was allowed in pubs & restaurants and there always seemed to be a French banker knocking back pastis & smoking these distinctive smelling cigarettes. Long lunches were taken for granted in the 1970’s &1980’s.

I may have packed up the weed decades ago, but I DID enjoy it - particularly after a meal and with a drink. Hubby never smoked so I resorted to going into the garden or a sneaky one in the bathroom with the window open. Sensibly he would say "those ****** things will kill you". What happens ? he died first of a heart attack !
