Clearly I am not the target customer, but giving over air time to more tat. More absolute waste of the earths resources being manufactured in China and shipped around the world.

But Gemporia has such a strong moral compass, just ask Ellis Ward. They have even changed their packaging to cheaper, I'm sorry. eco friendly packaging! It is total horse **** isn't it? Now the plastic flowers tat which will end up in land fill. Moral compass my arse!
 
It seems to me that Gemporia is chucking as much Chinese market stall level tat at the screen to see what sticks with the viewers.

Despite the alleged non-stop work of their highly paised "gem investors"/buyers Jake "Pie Cemetary" Thompson, Dave "Droopy" Troth, and Catweazle Cavill, Gems doesn't appear able to flog jewellery that a) contains more precious metal content than sea water, b) consist of high quality diamonds that aren't tiny accents or clusters, and c) include stones that have been treated more times than the average Kardashian. Unless the jewel is semi-precious, and even then you would be lucky.

Gemporia seems to be pushing each presenter to be the faces of a variety of non-jewellery products. It may not be long before we see Ellis shilling her own range of incontinence knickers, or Jeff debuting a range of polyblend nightmare shirts to buy for male relatives you're not that fond of
 
Ellis was working on a range of jigsaw puzzles (with gemstones) that were supposed to have been ready for Christmas, but they didn't arrive in time. She hasn't mentioned them since, but she was raving about them last year
 
A few days ago they were selling homewares that seemed of cheap Chinese origin. Many years ago I used to work at a store that sold homewares and I remember the offer from Chinese suppliers. It's seemed exactly what they were selling. In my opinion, it looks like poundshop quality stuff. Most of the time I tune in they are selling candles, however. Since everyone and their dog nowadays sells candles I don't know or understand why people would bother with Gemporia's. My mother says it's a case of extreme brand loyalty. Some people developed such a strong connection they will buy anything they sell. Well, for people like me who like to do televised window shopping, it's less entertaining
 
No wonder people develop shopping addictions and end up with rooms, garages and sheds full of tat.

One woman I used to work with used to leave work early on Friday afternoons, and spend 3-4 hours buying armfuls of clothes. Then after a weekend of trying them all on at home, she would take them all back the following week. Very rarely she'd like something enough to keep it.

Buying gives people an enormous buzz, and far too many people need their fix, no matter what. At least my old colleague did it in a way she could control.
 
Yes, absolutely! Retail therapy is also a big deal. Many people buy when they are depressed, unwell, etc... I can't criticize as I am not immune to it. When I received the worst health news of my life ever, I found myself at 2am buying anything that sounded cheerful and pretty. It showed me how easy it is to spin out of control and overspend. I have never done it again, but I have sympathy towards those who do. And some of these shopping channels have presenters who are constantly encouraging people to add to their order, so you have the addiction or weakness and the hard encouragement to indulge it
 
The fact that every selly telly channel now allow customers to pay in instalments doesn't help. If you regularly use this option, it must be very easy to lose track of what payments are due when, and how much in total you have going out of your account every month. And that's just shopping on one channel
 
Yes and often presenters mention the split payment as an opportunity for multibuy because only X (insert split payment amount) is coming out of your bank account "today". It's possible that some people do lose track of how much they are spending due to the system. Particularly when instalments appear low, they might add up easily. However, split payment have the benefit of allowing you to buy an item and check the quality whilst only paying part of the total amount. When my mother bought the ugliest ring ever thinking it would be gorgeous, we could say that at least she hadn't paid the full amount for it. Thankfully, the return was processed before any more instalments were collected....
 
Yes, the split pays, easy pays and all the other pay in installments do add up and it is easy to lose control. As you all probably know, to my shame, I had a wild spending addiction and I did lose control. I feel empathy for others, who, for whatever reason, are also trapped. The tat sellers actively encourage racking up these debts (it is a debt and they are the creditors), saying add to your orders, it's 1 p&p all day, so just keep adding and no more postage. I have heard often, mainly from Jess Foley saying it's just x amount (quoting split pay installment) and not qualifying as the downpayment. I looked up and expected her to go on to say something like x on split pay, or to "get it home today" but no, she made it sound like the total cost was x. I was concerned and spoke to Gemporia c/s and asked them to advise her to stop doing it because it is dishonest and misleading. Did they? Did they F**k! She carries on regardless and I switch over if I see she is presenting.
 
Angeline is guilty of this too, but it is her constant ‘you’re going to want to open your order’. Which means buy something, ANYTHING, so you can add to it through out the day. At one P&P, now £3.95, but they don’t mention the increase. It’s all very well to ‘open your order’ but you still have to pay for everything!
 
To some extent, most presenters do it: urge you to add to your order throughput the day as much as possible because, after all, you are only paying X thanks to split payment. Kate, who I actually like as a presenter, often says "fill your boots, fill your baskets", which some may see as problematic, others as merely playful. My mother says individual presenters probably have sales targets to meet, so they are desperate to see people buying as much as possible. I imagine that helping them lose track of how much they are really accumulating in terms of debt is part of that. It reminds me of casinos that don't have clocks so that people lose track of how much time has passed since they starting playing

They definitely have sales targets and related bonuses . I can’t imagine Steve Bennett being happy to pay presenters to chat all day and occasionally sell something. A few weeks ago Angeline was on the lunchtime slot with a show called ‘Sling it in your basket’ in which she brazenly encouraged people to buy everything because it was so cheap. The following day she said they would do it again as they had been blown away by the response. Really? There is absolutely no way to know if you are really getting a bargain. And I can’t believe that the viewers would be influenced by randomly naming a show.
 
What gets me, is that if I look at the Gemporia tat then head over to Amazon and do a search most of the time I find the exact same, or identical item, for less! I used to buy a candle or two. But no longer. I don't want to buy my vitamins, minerals, make-up, handbags, vases and knick-knacks from a jeweller. I think Steve needs to make his mind up what he wants the channel to be. Or at least keep it to the lifestyle channel - which I personally think was better as their outlet channel.
 
My mother often wonders who buys supplements from a jeweller. As I am in pain on a daily basis, I often stop and watch presentations about CBD oil. Today I was chatting with a oncology nurse that was very concerned about people buying things like CBD oil when not enough is known about them. She was surprised to hear they were selling CBD oil on the telly

Love the monikers all very apt cannot stand any of them and promptly switch off when they appear on screen, as for the tat well words fail me are people really buying this tat? If you want to buy tat pop in to a BM store it’s much cheaper!
