Can I just make a plug please?

The Royal British Legion has a Poppy Shop online so you know they will keep all the profits. They sell a lot, if not all, of these designs. I bought a couple from them and would rather buy direct than through Q.

As the Mother of a serving soldier I have little faith in Q`s commercialism regarding Remembrance poppy products. My mistrust may be wrong but I would rather buy directly from the British Legion because I know 100% of the profits will go to them. We`ve moved from simple paper poppies to fashion statements, no bad thing if it encourages people to donate but QVC must be making something out of it themselves because otherwise they wouldn`t sell them. At least with the BL all profit is going to the charity.

I bought a First World War centenary pin to wear on 1st July as my Great Uncle went missing in action on that day. I got the poppy and cornflower pin. The only thing I would say about buying through the British Legion, and there have been many complaints about it, the pin was £1.99 but the postage was £4.99. It was ridiculous as it arrived in a huge box, just floating around. It would have been much better protected and much cheaper had they used a jiffy bag. However, that said, I would rather purchase through the British Legion. Sorry, I forgot to add - I always buy a red poppy from our local lady who volunteers to sell them.

Yep the £4.95 the BL charge seems a lot if only one item is ordered or if the item costs just a few pounds but their p and p is capped at that amount and free on orders over £50.

Vienna, have to say I agree with you. We have a number of ex-military in our family, and I would always donate direct to the British Legion themselves. I'm afraid I don't trust commercial organisations not to take a huge 'cut' out of any money they get, whatever the publicity may say to the contrary. The devil is often in the detail, and it's what they don't say that bothers me.

With the poppy things we buy from QVC it's actually Buckley who gives the donation to the British Legion and not QVC. It isn't particularly clear in the wording on the website but the Buckley guest has been very clear about that on screen. It's the same if you buy from Buckley direct. Now whether buying from the BL increases that by adding any additional profit into the coffers isn't clear. Well it isn't to me anyway. I tend to buy from the BL anyway.

I know it is just me but I'm not keen on the fashion jewellery idea of making everything that moves into a poppy. I think it devalues the idea of the simple poppy. For me less is definitely more.
