****** torches again

I collect torches, have well over 100, but only a few from QVC.

These days I only collect unusual ones, such as one with a built-in knife, fork and spoon.

In the "old-day" there was a joke that in the future someone would invent a solar-powered torch (ie you could only use it during the day).

Now, there are loads of solar-powered torches on the market, I have a few myself.

The joke didn't envisage the development of lithium-ion batteries, or high-powered small capacitors to store the charge so you could use them in the dark.

I think I must need a solar torch. Can you recommend one? I had a wind up one but didn't recharge after a short time.

No, I'm not an expert, just buy one if I really like it.

BTW we have a shop that specialises in batteries and torches, but the owner is a bit bombastic.

Some years ago I went there to see what LED torches he had.

"They are useless, they will never be as good as bulb torches, and I will never sell them".

Now his shop is full of them!

And they have become better than torches with bulbs.

PS you can get a windup which is also solar, the best of both worlds.

My favourite torch is a headtorch but mine does not have LED bulbs as I bought it years ago. I am surprised to find that I have around 10 torches.

I have a wind up radio that's also a torch, best of both world's when you have a power cut and there's no need for batteries ! (Didn't buy it from QVC though)

It really winds me up (see what I did there? :D ) when they try to demonstrate the torch by shining it directly into the camera. It doesn't show how bright it is, just that the TV can show a white screen. Pointless. If someone pushed a torch into my face for real like that, they'd likely end up getting a slap! QVC's usual top notch production standards at work.

blimey, never thought I'd learn so much about torches in such a short time. It's been my light-bulb moment.
