I know I may be naive, but I thought Dennis Basso only sold faux fur things - I just happened to do a search - wondering where else his coats and things were sold, you know, anywhere cheaper and all that, and came across his website - full of real fur stuff I just quickly looked at something - it was $7,500!!!! woah that was a kind of eye opener - I had no idea, I just really thought it was faux stuff he was all about. Of course QVC wouldn't sell that price stuff anyway, and maybe they do have a stance about SELLING fur, but still .............. (sorry, I know I may be opening a can of worms here, I just posted about it because I was really surprised!) I quite like the TSV, but I would never wear real fur.

It is a sore subject on here!

There's a big anti-basso  movement here on the QVC forum already Daisygirl, it usually crops up when he visits. I would never wear fur but I wouldn't criticise anyone who buys his faux items if they choose to. In a perverse way  maybe we should all buy the TSV and make his cruelty-free range more successful than his real fur trade...ok so that's not going to happen is it

That's true! Everyone buy the TSV! Oh I didn't realise about the discussions already going on, perhaps there should be an 'ethically friendly' shopping channel

I've never really watched Basso before so was just wondering, does he always have the same "can we hurry this up coz I really would rather be somewhere else" attitude that he is displaying on air now?

If I had my way he would be somewhere else, back in the stinking bowels of hell where he belongs, the gravel voiced git.

I know I'm biased but to me he oozes obnoxious-icity from every pore and.......his (gravel) voice really grates! :puke:

I find it ironic that QVC only stock beauty brands which are cruelty free and don't support animal testing. Yet they happily trot out this...gobsh!te who stands behind the ultimate cruelty to an animal. Doesn't really make sense now does it?

He sells chinchilla fur coats. It takes up to 150 chinchillas to be skinned alive to go into one fur coat alone.

I had a chinchilla for a pet, they can live up to 20 years and he was the most adorable little creature, really friendly and would go potty when he saw me.

I absolutely detest Dennis Basso and everything he stands for and nope don't give that man a bean, even for a fake fur coat, he doesn't deserve to be in business at all!!

OK... calming down now, think I'll cheer myself up by watching a bit of Kelly Hoppen, who actually is just as obnoxious IMO, especially after hearing she was overheard saying something like, 'right let's make another £75,000' as they went to ad!!

kelly wont be getting a bean from me. that looks like nn stuff all disguised with her monogram.

i am shocked that so many animals have to be killed its really dreadfull. i shall never forget some of the pictures of the animals slaughtered for vanity. it is good that people are made aware of these atrocities. i really had no idea.

Have to confess that I have been tempted by Basso stuff on Q but have never actually taken the plunge. Has he got form for animal cruelty and stuff cos another confession is that I'm not a vegeatrian and I do wear leather shoes n gloves so am guilty too in way?!

Also a couple of years ago I bought a fleece from M&S with a furry collar, you might have seen them, the fleece had a kind of circle imprint pattern and they were available in grey and cream. It was ages before I wore it and washed it but when I did the collar went a bit funny. When I checked the material / washing instructions it didn't mention the collar but I suspect it was real fur!!!! shock!!!! horror!!! but as I say I do eat meat and wear leather shoes so think I might be a hypocrite!

Maybe he talks to the animals and they fall into an everlasting sleep, just to escape the sound. He looks to me like he wouldn't look out of place selling burgers at a car boot sale.

Lily, would you recommend a Chinchilla as a pet? My mum's dog died before Christmas and as she is disabled now she cannot cope with training a new dog/puppy but misses having some company during the day.

I must say, it did surprise me - what he does for a living, so to speak . I really thought 'that' industry was dead - I thought that was in the dark ages now. And what with that coughing he does all the time - euugghhh!!!!

No, I won't be watching his shows again. I do eat meat and wear leather shoes, but to kill animals only for the fur on their back........... :( a million times.

Yep, Basso is a sore subject on here. I am so glad this forum made me aware of the other side of his business, as I had been tempted by (although thankfully resisted) some of his pieces in the past. I had no idea he dealt with real fur - QVC don't see fit to mention that so that people can make an informed decision. Personally, I wouldn't buy any of his faux fur stuff either, as all I'd be doing is lining his pockets. I don't even watch QVC or go on their website, let alone buy anything on the day he is on, just as a little mini-protest! But, I'm not saying anything else on the subject , as I don't want to start one of the big arguments about Basso that we've seen in the past on this forum. I'm a soppy old sod about animals and get really upset reading about them suffering in any way.

Basso specialises in broadtail lamb. The cruelty involved in harvesting these skins is stomach turning and I won't link to any details because it could cause distress to people. The fact that this is one of his showpieces means I could never buy his stuff. There has to be a more ethical way to do fur if you absolutely have to wear it. Although those living in freezing harsh environments may need the warmth society belles don't imho.

Personally no I wouldn't, as I said, they can live up to 20 years, longer than cats and dogs and they're nocturnal, so it would have to live somewhere where you could not hear him running around at night. I love them, but I wouldn't get another for those reasons. We had our chinchilla for 15 years. House rabbits can be great company.

Also I should imagine a lot of us are meat eaters and wear leather, but the animals are killed humanely and killed for meat. Furriers do not kill the animals humanely, they can be skinned alive and obviously the animal is not eaten for meat, so it's killed just for someone's vanity and if it can take up to 150 little animals for one fur coat, that's a lot of skinning!

Also your M&S jumper, might have been rabbit fur, if the item came from China, then their fur practices are even worse.

I don't eat meat, and I don't wear leather, so the very thought of the cruelty this man inflicts on animals is sickening and abhorrent to me in the extreme. As I've said before on this topic, if QVC felt that their viewers would be sanguine, possibly even nonchalant, about Basso Profundo's main trade, they would be shouting his celebrity clients names from the rooftop, since their number one selling tactic appears to be based on the idea that we are all emulous of these rich, yet moronic headliners. But they don't, so they are obviously aware that the majority of people in this country are anti-fur and would not buy from someone who makes money out of the suffering of animals whose only fault is that they happen to be beautiful. I hate people who wear fur, and I hate people who profit from such a vile trade. It sickens me that there are women who think that owning a fur coat is some sort of status symbol, when the only thing it is a symbol of is the cretinous nature of the unfeeling b*stard wearing it.

Read this thread and did a google search myself. He apparently lives with his partner Michael Cominotto. It never crossed my mind he was gay. Not that there's anything wrong with that, I'm just surprised that's all.

Basso almost let it slip last night when he was saying of one of his coats, "if this was real fur in one of my...(then he corrected himself)...all other stores, this would cost 10,000'. Hideous.
