Is there any reason to buy plants by the likes of Hayloft & de Jager from QVC rather than direct from the companies?
I’ve always bought direct from several nurseries. Surely not the returns policy as with bulbs the time would have expired by the time they grew & flowered & with plants you’d have to dig them up?
They seem very expensive compared to what I pay so can’t see the reason. Anyone enlighten me?

I have never bought plants from QVC, I have now just flicked on the channel and sure enough there is RJ rabbiting on about Flower Power, so swiftly move on.The only time I have bought online from the Nurseries was last year when everything was closed. Now I just go to my local garden centres so I can see exactly what I am getting, but perhaps that is not possible for some people?

I find supermarkets sometimes have good value plants at this time of year. I have dozens of clematis that I’ve bought over the years from the likes of Morrison’s, Aldi & Asda.. They are small but soon grow on. In fact many have survived better, having paid about £1:79 each, when ones I’ve bought on trips to specialist nurseries have died even though they were substantial sized plants costing £15+

I Have bought plants from QVC relatively recently and when QVC first started selling plants. Quite a few years ago I went to Chelsea flower show and QVC had a Show Garden there. I got chatting to the guy who was there on the QVC stall do and he said that QVC would soon be selling more premium plants than they did in the earlier days. Its nice to get a premium larger plant if your budget allows. But QVC is not the first place I would buy a plant unless its very unusual which mostly they are not.

Despite the sales pitch the plants are very overpriced and I have a lot of choice from the high street giants like B&Q, Homebase even the supermarkets for cheap and cheerful bedding. But sometimes I will buy as a treat a shrub that will more than likely last me many years. All have been lovely. if it is not great QVC are very good and send out a replacement.

I have a clematis Montana Elizabeth, bought from Morrys about 10 years ago. Cost a quid. They have them now at about £1.80 as Brissles said. So Q's £22 (incl. P&P) is a ridiculous price. And 20 Busy Lizzies for £29 (inc P&P) is just off the wall. Morrys do packs of 6 for £2, next month like, not yet. This was my Montana last year, even creeping along the washing line, I keep saying I will cut that bit off, but it just looks so nice I can't bring myself to. So not bad for a quid.

We don’t have many of the supermarkets or homeware stores here. I looked at items in Tesco and they were half dead and about £8 for a small pot of pansies. I won’t be buying them!

ive spent the afternoon potting up my own seedlings - the only problem is that I’ve run out of room and there are as many more to do next week!

I love clematis, sadly they don't return the affection  even Montana, described by my sister as a weed, gives up the ghost as soon as I plant it. Everything else thrives.

I used to get loads of plants from Morrisons when I lived in town and they were always really good and put on good displays. Cheap as chips as well compared to QVC. Having said that, I've just noticed I've bought a ton of plants from QVC that are all coming this month. Better book in some overtime
