There has been talk of a shortage of lorry drivers for months so why has the fuel issue only now happened?

Could it be so we take our attention off the government, as some minister said just after the 911 terrorist attack/ now would be a very good time to bury bad news.

We went into Brexit short of HGV drivers. Brexit increased the shortfall. The pandemic increased the shortfall, as many HGV drivers were in the highly vulnerable category for getting severe covid...and they stopped training and testing new drivers with the pandemic.
Who would have thought delivery drivers would be vital in a pandemic where we were told to stay at home?
Of course fuel delivery drivers need specialist training because of the dangers of what they carry, and unloading it safely into the underground fuel storage tanks at the petrol stations.
I don't believe we have fuel about to go off.
I just think we are getting more dithering and delay in facing up to taking decisions that some of the loudmouths in the political ranks won't like.
They have failed to see far enough ahead. How the hell did they manage the vaccines triumph? Surely being fore sighted there should have been applied elsewhere in public policy, but no.

The Fat Controller huffs and puffs, and it has got to the no point gives a crap what he has to say. He and his government only suddenly jump when it hits them in the face and by then it is too late to actually sort things out.

Oh, it seems Asda in N.I. have decided to cut down to £30 the amount of fuel you can buy. The other garages are carrying on as usual.

No petrol shortage in the Borders. We've been buying as normal and no limits. All the "empty" petrol stations all seem to be around the London area. I have seen a lot of "no turkeys for Christmas" articles but as we always have a curry on Christmas day this won't affect us (hmm, that sounds a bit "I'm all right Jack" which I don't mean it to be. There'll be one more turkey for someone else I hope). If everyone was considerate and just bought what they needed none of this would happen. Remember all those pictures in the paper of unopened food chucked in bins?

It doesn't, you're stating facts & there's nothing wrong with that. All the supermarkets in this area that sell fuel are fine & my Mr T, who is climbing somewhere beyond Fort William, hasn't had any problems on the M6 or in Scotland. The media has a terminal case of scarestoryitis & the latest symptom is that snow is expected in the coming weeks. Give me strength.

No petrol problem here but every week the food available gets less and less and sell by dates are the day you buy them.

If people can`t get a turkey then they`ll have to eat summat else.
If people can`t get that particular toy then they`ll have to buy summat else.
If certain chocolates, foodstuffs, alcohol or beer are out of stock then they`ll have to eat/drink summat else.
The whole thing is hardly life or death and at least unlike last year we can visit friends or family or have them visit us which is more important than anything else in my opinion.
A less commercialised Christmas would do a lot of people a lot of good and let them seek joy in the less material aspects.
Those who follow Christianity will always remind us that Christmas isn`t about how much we spend and what we eat or drink. I`m not a practising Christian but I will say after last Christmas when I could only see one son face to face because another son was shielding due to a lung condition and my oldest son was fighting for his life in hospital due to covid, then I don`t care if it`s beans on toast, no presents or cheap and cheerful gifts and me and Mr V sharing a bottle of Vimto instead of vino because hopefully This year everybody I love will be fit, well and safe.
