My parents met when they both worked for a company called Barrow Stores in Birmingham, it was known as the city's Fortnum & Mason & had been started by one of the Cadbury family. Mum was a comptometer operator in the accounts department & my dad was a salesman visiting some of the posh people of Edgbaston & Harborne. One of their friends was a lift attendant who wore the most wonderful outfit & had to be totally up to date with all the new products & prices so that she could persuade people to buy while they were travelling between floors. They said that the first time they went into a Booths store the smell of freshly ground coffee & the sight of the staff on the counters who knew their products took them straight back to when they were courting & worked for such a wonderful company.

Wouldn't we all?

I have decided to stop watching the news. Between feeling like I am doomed when I step outside my door. ****** Trump non-stop.

The latest is we in N.I. are running of oxgen! Not enough to go around in the hospitals.
Shame that CO2 can't be converted into oxygen - all the boffins could be attached to tanks & told to keep talking, the problem would be sorted within hours. I despise the politicians but my feelings about the 'experts' can't be published.

So they are now saying BoBo will be declaring a nationwide lockdown next week. Well, school and universities will be staying open.

I know N.I, Scotland and Wales have their own governments and have been much tighter than England anyway. The schools are opening here on Monday again. The hairdressers and beauty salons took Stormont government to court over making them close but lost. They insisted their safety rules were better than over places.

Typical of the government's approach throughout. Too slow, too little, and too late. Doing the lockdown to coincide with half term would have been less difficult.

They waited weeks to put Nottingham into tier 3, despite the two universities having extremely high infection rates, if not the highest in England.

It is very frustrating as they are dithering between health and the economy and making matters worse for both as a result.

As someone put it very well this morning on the radio, in a footballing analogy: the government has lost the dressingroom.

I keep saying this on various forums (fora ?). Such drastic actions such as Tier 3 and national lockdown could have been avoided if everyone followed the rules - Mask, Hands & Space.

This next bit is long-winded but I’m so angry that it’s come to this.

when lockdown started in March I offered to do some food shopping for vulnerable neighbours. I did so for 4 people until the end of Aug and I’m still doing it for 2. Although these 2 ladies plus their hubbies are elderly (from 79 to 91) they are still full of life and are missing their social activities (golf, choir, swimming, coffee mornings, fuchsia society, visit family in California etc). They venture out once a week for a drive or outside trips - garden centre or the dump just for a change of scenery.

How dare people expect the elderly to just give up their lives so that students and younger families can carry on with business as usual.

youngsters who miss a year of socialising, foreign holidays etc have got many years ahead of them to make up for lost time.

my neighbours don’t have years ahead to improve their golf handicap, go on coach tours etc.

We‘re doomed always reminds me of Dad’s Army 🤣😂 those were the days.....I must be getting old 😩

Another coincidence - - - David Jason was on the radio this morning talking about his life (a book to sell, obviously lol).

He had been offered the part of Corp. Jones by the director, only to be told a few hours later that someone much higher up in the BBC had already offered it to Clive Dunn, so the offer was withdrawn.

Would have been interesting to see how he would have played the part.

I would hazard, Eric’s Mum, it’s because people like Dominic Cummings don’t give a flying **** about the elderly.

I decided to stockpile some bras from M&S but one was just an empty box! Still when I rang an immediate replacement order was put through.
Scratchy alternative to toilet paper & blockage to be dealt with 🤣

He was on BBC Breakfast yesterday, he said when he went to read for Del Boy they thought he was there for the part of Granddad. People so used to him acting older parts.

Holy crap, it lasts until the 2nd December and BoBo is holding a press conference shortly

Still as clear as mud, eg - - - However, the rule of six no longer applies to outdoor gatherings - instead, people can only meet one person from one other household or bubble, and only if they’re on their own when they do so.
