"Who is not happy with the "old" chit/chat room Idea

Help Support ShoppingTelly:

Not sure how long it will stay smooth. I've just popped in for a peep, and he's like a conductor and got both rooms chatting about jewellery - lol I was only joking when I said to watch out for riot police, I don't think that helmet suits Barry though, its a bit like a teddy bear in a stab vest.

......:laughs:

i didn't mean to upset anyone, its just that the chat seems to be causing alot of upset thats all, and it seems that whatever rocks tv do regarding it people are unhappy. what would be your solution argeybargey out of interest, to keep everyone happy?

Sorry if I was unclear - I thought I'd been saying that you can't please all of the people all of the time, however it would have been simple to prewarn people rather than trying to herd them into different pens like sheep.

That makes sense, and perhaps a warning to prepare regulars would have made things alot better. It is true that you can't please all people all of the time, i imagine thats hard for rocks tv, as how do they decide which set of customers to make unhappy. rock and hard place situation

Jeez is this bluddy chat thing STILL causing so much controversy?? :11: It's been trouble almost since day 1 and tbh I'm surprised Rocks bods still bother to keep it going. So much wasted time and energy seems to be employed policing it which is surely distracting attention away from the the products?? The trouble is that chatrooms (and forums) always attract an element of attention seekers and trouble makers, people who are usually quite ineffective and ignored irl but find a niche in these places to force people into noticing them even if it means being contraversial or downright unpleasant. If I was Steve I'd get rid of the bluddy rooms and concentrate my efforts into allowing the presenters to present the jewellery instead of trying to keep control in the playground. :pPC:

Hi Argey, lol what are you like you cheeky little:38:

Well I am no longer a Rocks chatter or buyer for the time being at least,
I put my point of view over in an email and got Rocks to empty my basket, this was to air my view on the "old" chit/chat room Idea.:58:
So I have spoke with my feet and my purse! a very sad day for me!!!:17:

Hi Sue,

I think a lot of the problems are that the the chatbox is in fact NOT moderated. Much of it seems to be left to electronics rather than people who can determine the difference between Mrs Cox and a similar sounding word. If they do simply turn to the usual jewellery selling format, I doubt they'll be around much longer as the competition is too severe at the moment and even the well-established are struggling.

Crikey - how unhelpful is that Gemdreamer? If something doesn't please some folk, then simply kill it off? We'd soon have minority rule in that case (though some would argue we're already very close, but that's another subject). I so hope you don't apply this rule to the whole of your life - how dull!

Regarding your last post, I think you're missing the point. Many Rocks customers buy into the whole package, jewellery can be purchased anywhere.

Argey

Thoroughly agree argey - couldn't have put better myself

Argey I accept as what you say because I don't participate on ROCKS and can only make a judgement now by what I read on here.....I stopped watching pronto when all these chat problems began, I just couldn't be arsed with it. Plus their jewellery doesn't appeal to me so really I shouldn't even bother to get involved in the discussion lol. :D :pPC:

It won't last long Catz, I'll bet she's got the shakes already! <a href="http://plugin.smileycentral.com/http%253A%252F%252Fwww.smileycentral.com%252F%253Fpartner%253DZSzeb008%255FZNxpt484YYGB%2526i%253D4%252F4%255F6%255F200v%2526feat%253Dprof/page.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/4/4_6_200v.gif" alt="SmileyCentral.com" border="0"><img border="0" src="http://plugin.smileycentral.com/http%253A%252F%252Fimgfarm%252Ecom%252Fimages%252Fnocache%252Ftr%252Ffw%252Fsmiley%252Fsocial%252Egif%253Fi%253D4%252F4_6_200v%2526uiv%253D3.0/image.gif"></a>

Hello everyone,

Sorry for not posting sooner. I am moving house this weekend and do not yet have internet (or mobile phone reception!) I just popped in to the office to get some things and saw this thread.

As we get busier the presenters and Help Team just can't keep up with the volume of chat so the idea is that there is one chat just for jewellery and auction related chat and one for everything else.

This is intended so that it is easier to interact with the presenter it is very difficult for them to spot the chats they need to read in amongst everything else!

The other chat is not moderated or viewed by the Help Team at all - hence the rules which set out the reasonable expectations of a self-moderated chat.

As always, we're completely open to feedback and happy to make changes where necessary. Feel free to email me at [email protected] and I will look at all your feedback in detail (and read this thread more thoroughly) next time I have the internet. I'm afraid that will probably not be until Tuesday now, but I will get back to you as soon as I can.

Kind regards

John Bennett

I forgot to mention. Any is going to look at a way of you having the option of both chats on screen at one time.....

What about presenter/buyer interaction?? That needs to be brought back, its what has made Rocks what it is.

John explained that the presenter will interact with the jewellery related stuff, and that the presenters were finding that more difficult with all other chat going on.

Unfortunately that is not what made Rocks special - it is the general interaction with the presenter - the light-hearted banter, otherwise all they need to do is make sure the information is full and correct at the bottom of the page and recycle prerecorded clips for each item - rather like Gems TV and QVC night time shows.

That is already easily done - you just have to open chats in new windows and resize so they sit next to each other. Problem is there is so much to follow and keep track of who's where that there is no time to think about let alone look at the jewellery.

I understand you point, but from what John said in his reply i assume that there was a problem, and that this was the solution. Perhaps now they have too many people watching/buying etc to leave the chat interaction as it was.
Selling items is going to be their first priority same as all retail outlets. Perhaps things will sort themselves out in time.

I didn't know gemstv did night shows, what are they about?

Beg to differ but yesterday we were being admonished within minutes of chat opening - and throughout the day we got occasional messages from help. Also we specifically asked Katherine (I think) and she said that chit chat WAS monitored.

One way of doing this without resorting to 2 chat rooms would be to enforce rules about requesting ie email or Chat Live but NOT in chat - meeshoo had a brilliant idea about putting a request button on screen that you could use to enter code and send - and which would also redirect you to Coloured Rocks if it was last of stock.

Also a lot less purely business interactions would be necessary if the written details on screen were complete and correct.

Sorry John. This is a lousy idea. Do you want to sell jewellery or become a forum?

I've made a couple of suggestions (a few pages ago) that perhaps you may want to consider.

Insisting people talk about jewellery all the time in one chat room is not realistic and won't actually work unless it is heavily moderated. As somebody said earlier, having a chat room is your USP - don't mess that up and complicate matters - just keep things simple and make sure that the one and only general chat room is policed properly (and not just electronically).

Selling items is indeed their first priority and in these hard times it is the companies who keep a loyal customer base who do that.

Gems night time shows are repeats of daytime bits "second chance snatch-it" just like QVC night time - where they exhort you to be quick because if you are watching a repeat, there may not be many left - as if the reason for putting them on at night wasn't because they had too many in the first place IMAO.
