He apparently comes from an era (the 1960s) when you could leave your back door unlocked. My Dad locked the flat up in 1968 and came back to find all our possessions gone. Plenty of burglary in the 1960s and other serious crime, too. Including the brutal murder of three Metropolitan Police Officers in London in 1966.
