I remember watching Stig of the Dump as a kid. Sure it was shown on a Thursday tea time, althogh it could have been Huckleberry Finn.
Stig of the Dump was certainly a book. As a lad I looked like the boy (Peter?) and got the nickname Stig. Unfortunately the name was hijacked by Top Gear and the caveman Stig was forgotten.

Yeah, I remember it saying it was based on the book. I remember a few shows I used to watch in the early to mid 80s saying similar.

Love stig of the dump - and loved the chapter where they met the snargets. I remember the vivid description of smoking and the jelly babies
